Young Executive of the Year award winner Craig West from Downer impressed the judges with his leadership style.
“Craig showed a strength of character and demonstrated Downer's philosophy of "humbly smart". His approach to the way he works, connects with others and the commitment to his people is clearly evident. His core believe using behaviour and language to drive and shape culture and his complete commitment in keeping his team safe spoke volumes of his leadership style. We were incredibly impressed with Craig's mana, personal ethos, integrity, drive and level of achievement he has made and this resulted in him being named the Young Executive of the Year,” says O’Sullivan.
West was extremely humbled by his award and attributes the win to his authentic leadership.
“I’m very proud and humbled to receive this, especially when I look at who’s received this before. I’m certainly in esteemed company. My journey with Downer has been extremely rewarding and see this award as a great achievement for the entire company and as a way to motivate and inspire my team.”

“When you reflect on not only the winners but also the nominees, it is the diversity of sectors in which New Zealand businesses excel, at world class level, which is impressive. Congratulations to you all, New Zealand’s economic future is in great hands.”
Deloitte CEO, Thomas Pippos, unreservedly congratulated all of the Top 200 winners, saying he continued to be impressed with the level of leadership and vision, as well as resilience, in New Zealand’s largest organisations.
“Over the 26 years of the Deloitte Top 200, perhaps the most notable trait of some of our largest companies has been their resilience and ability to adapt and reinvent themselves to stay ahead of the competition. In many respects this flows from the skills of empowered and talented leaders working with their boards and shareholders; many of which are recognised as part of the Top 200 awards. Given that our Top 200 organisations remain the backbone of New Zealand’s economy, this is a highly desirable trait that is worth celebrating.”
The Top 200 award winners are derived from the annual listing of New Zealand’s 200 largest corporations based on revenue, there is a separate list of New Zealand’s Top 30 financial enterprises based on asset value.
The lists comprise public listed and unlisted companies, New Zealand subsidiaries of multinational companies, cooperatives, societies and state-owned enterprises (SOEs), plus private companies prepared to supply audited accounts. ENDS
