As many of you know, Oman, Bahrain and Kuwait are about to embark on a journey to implement Value Added Tax (VAT). A path that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) have already walked down in implementing the indirect tax.
Given that the representatives of the Member States of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) have all signed a unified VAT Framework Treaty, there is a lot that can be learnt from the first two countries that have already adopted the tax. In this regard, there are already murmurings as to the possible implementation dates that are being considered by these States, but we have yet to sight any draft legislation.
The Deloitte Tax practice is, therefore, running a short survey around the lessons learned during the journey to the UAE and KAS VAT implementation.
