Fernand has more than 27 years of experience in indirect tax, with a strong focus on customs, excises taxes and global trade matters. Before becoming a consultant, he worked as a customs official with the Dutch customs authorities dealt with several global trade matters.

Approximately 24 years ago, Fernand became a global trade advisory consultant. He grew his specialization in a variety of global trade advisory matters and built out a specialized group of experts serving clients in both the public and private sectors in business model optimization, automation, compliance, export controls, excises, litigation, valuation, origin, classification, and data analytics. In leading the Belgian global trade advisory service line, Fernand has advised clients on global trade advisory matters in many domains.

For six years, Fernand was a lecturer at the University of Leiden in the Netherlands in customs and international trade. He also lectures at the University of Antwerp in customs and international trade. In addition, Fernand is a regular speaker, has written several books on Global Trade and many articles on global trade advisory and has authored a number of books on global trade advisory matters.

In May 2010, he became the Global Leader for Global Trade Advisory within Deloitte, a group of over 800 subject matter experts around the Globe serving clients in both the public and private sector on customs and global trade matters and as of September, 1st he became the Global Trade Advisory Leader for the Middle East region.
