Deloitte and UNDP survey of skill needs
Deloitte and the UNDP have released preliminary results of the PNG skills survey launched in September 2016. The survey has received over 230 responses from employers across all key sectors and locations of Papua New Guinea.
With over 85% of the population working in the informal sector increasing employment and lowering employment costs to business is a fundamental driver of inclusive economic growth. To help address this issue, Deloitte and the UNDP have partnered to conduct a joint thought leadership piece of research focussing on growing employment in PNG.
As part of that research we developed a survey of business’ skill needs which seeks to provide critical background information into skills gaps in Papua New Guinea’s labour market, as well as the factors affecting hiring decisions. This document provides preliminary results; detailed analysis will be conducted in early 2017, with a view to a formal launch of the research findings thereafter.
