Social licence is key to Australian business survival

In this year’s annual CSR Review, the electricity, gas and water supply industry show stronger Corporate Social Responsibility management capabilities than last year (up 8% to 82%). The information technology industry was last year’s best performer at 78%. Manufacturing improved by 8% to 81%, but higher education continues to lag at 68%.
Social accountability was the worst performer (18% lower than the strongest capability, stakeholder engagement), although it grew the best up 22% to 58%. In all 1107 respondents answered questions relating to their organisation’s CSR management capabilities.
Only those who said they were working in CSR-related roles answered questions about their organisation’s priorities in CSR, and how it contributes to business innovation and drives business outcomes, as well as their readiness for the impending Modern Slavery Act.
