Transforming the way we live and work

Deloitte’s leadership, culture and wellbeing transformation services help businesses to ensure the sustainability of their people and performance in stressful, unstable, ambiguous and changing environments.

The issue with psychological health in our workplaces

Psychological health has become one of the nation’s biggest threats to productivity. One in five Australians will experience a mental illness in their lifetime. Estimates suggest that nearly 11% of the full-time Australian workforce had experienced a mental disorder in the past month. Associated costs in performance deficits were calculated at $2.7bn[1] per year.

The largest impact of psychological health on the business bottom line is worker productivity. Both absenteeism and presenteeism (a worker who is not as effective as they could be when they are at work) contribute to the overall performance costs associated with poor mental health.
