Aliaa joined us as a fresh graduate two and a half years ago. Here’s her story.
Throughout my student life, I had always thought that I would become an engineer. However, I changed my mind after a summer internship, and started to look for other career paths to embark upon. Many of my classmates aspired to be consultants, so my interest was naturally piqued. They told me that consultants solve business problems, help people and get to work on different projects in different industries. Most of the time, they also get the opportunity to work on-site at clients’ offices both locally and out of country. This excited me! I loved problem-solving and working with people. Consulting also sounded like a great choice for me as a fresh graduate, because I wanted be introduced to various industries before deciding on one to specialise in.
Growing up in the digital age, I knew I wanted to work in the technology sector. When an opening for a Salesforce analyst role at Deloitte became available, I applied without thinking twice. Although I was not familiar with Salesforce or the Platform as a Service (PaaS) industry, I kept an open mind and was eager to explore what the role had to offer.
I was overwhelmed with jitters on the day of the interview, but that feeling quickly dissipated. My interviewer was a technical architect who spoke passionately about his work. In subsequent interactions with the hiring manager, partner and team members, I resonated with their drive and energy. The whole experience was very uplifting and positive.
In my first week at Deloitte, I attended a Salesforce bootcamp. Managers from the Singapore and Malaysia offices introduced us to Salesforce and the consulting industry in general. It was definitely something I needed to kick off my career. Although the two-day session was packed with information and activities, I left enriched with knowledge and inspired by my helpful and driven teammates. As a new hire, I was also assigned a buddy, who introduced me to the broader team. I was also assigned a coach, who is a senior member of the team, to help with my career growth. With so many resources to leverage on to chart my career, I felt welcomed and cared for from the start.
Although my first project was for a client based locally in Malaysia, my team was very diverse, with colleagues from Indonesia, Vietnam, and India, whom I got to meet in-person. Since then, I have worked on global projects with colleagues from Deloitte USA, New Zealand, Korea, Japan, China, Southeast Asia and from other offerings such as Advertising, Marketing & Commerce. These global and cross-functional interactions have taught me a lot about Salesforce, the broader organisation and how to adapt to different regional cultures and working styles.
I was given the opportunity to lead an omnichannel enablement project. This involved integrating Salesforce with a popular social messaging application automate our client’s routine workload and enhance their customer service experience. It was a memorable project, as I was able to witness how my work had great impact on both consumers and businesses.
My advice to fresh graduates looking to start their career with Deloitte would be to make the most out of every situation, and to always keep an open mind and be open to learning new things. Whenever you are faced with a hurdle or setback, think of it as a stepping stone to success. There is always something to learn from every experience, and if you hit a roadblock, know that there are many mentors and coaches that you can always reach out to. Lastly, and most importantly, my advice is to pay it forward because this culture we have at Deloitte is what makes the whole experience priceless.

As part of the Experience, we were fortunate to have leaders speak with us about their journey and give us opportunities to ask them questions. What’s more amazing is that despite all they have achieved, they were extremely humble and gave no holds barred responses.
At the bootcamp, we met fellow business analysts from across Southeast Asia. Working together as a regionally diverse team allowed us to learn more about each other’s cultures.
We're always going to encounter difficulties and challenges in our career, but when we work as a team, there is nothing truly impossible or out of reach. Although resilience will get you through almost everything, my bootcamp team took breaks and shared a few laughs before having a go at it again whenever we felt overwhelmed. Teamwork makes the dream work!

I was inspired to join Deloitte because I had heard a lot of good things about the firm while studying overseas. I decided to pursue consulting in particular because I wanted to work with clients from different industries.
Four months in, I’m honestly happy that I joined Deloitte. All the people I have worked with so far have been more than willing to guide me. They also emphasise work-life balance and the importance of taking a break when necessary.
The most meaningful lesson I learnt at the bootcamp would be to know and understand your teammates in order to have better team collaboration and synergy. That way, we could leverage on each other's strengths to create our best work.

Although I studied Engineering, I realised it wasn’t what I wanted to pursue. But I love applying engineering skills such as logical thinking, problem solving and analysis, and I have good communication skills too. Hence, I felt Consulting might be a good career path for me. Deloitte’s strong relationships with clients in many industries made me feel like it would be the best place for me to grow.
The bootcamp was very helpful, especially for people like me, who do not have a background in business. I’ve had to a learn a lot, very quickly. But everyone I’ve met at Deloitte is so nice. I feel motivated to keep learning and improving myself.
Working with my team mates reminds me that everyone has their own strengths. No one person can do everything; we have to work as a team. And everyone is important, so we have to make sure that no one is left behind.

I had initially thought of Deloitte as just another Big Four consulting firm. But now that I’ve joined, my perspective has broadened and I’m motivated to build my consulting career here and deliver value to my clients. Even after the bootcamp, Deloitte continues to support me through multiple channels. I have weekly sessions with my project team to gain feedback on how I can improve my work. I also have a monthly catch-up session with my coach, who provides me with unbiased views of my performance within Deloitte. They also give advice on how I can hone my consulting skills.
