Coverage of a meeting organized for family businesses in Katowice on February 9th, 2017.
'Challenges facing Family Businesses' is a series of events dedicated to family and private business owners and successors. We are travelling across Poland to learn about the history and specifics of family companies that operate in different regions.
On 9 February 2017 we visited Katowice for a meeting organized in the famous Monopol Hotel. This time we listened to the success stories of Mr. Krzysztof Domarecki (Selena FM S.A.) and Mr. Józef Rolnik (Firma Rolnik). Ph.D. Andreas Glenz shared with us his impressions and reflections on the event. Please view our brief video interviews.
Mr. Krzysztof Domarecki, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Selena FM S.A., obseves that it is necessary to innovate and be a step ahead of the competitors in the area of technological advancement. "Online database systems, artificial intelligence, robotics/ automation or even the use of online communication all affect our ways of business to such a great extent that each of us is bound to personally experience the implications of those changes," he says.
Mr. Józef Rolnik, the Vice-President of Rolnik, describes how he has been building his company together with his friends over the span of more than two decades. He talks about creating relationships that are not pure business, about his employees who appreciate their shared path of progress and take pride in the success of their organization. He also touches upon the issue of intergenerational management.
Ph.D. Andreas Glenz, CEO of PREVAC, shares his impressions. He points out the need to share experience and align the business with the dynamic changes taking place in the economy of the country. The issue of succession is a relatively new challenge for family businesses in Poland.

The module focused on innovations in family businesses and the available ways of obtaining new technologies for firms was very popular among the meeting participants. We also discussed the issue of family business integration. The representatives of ABC Czepczyński talked about the role played by the Council of Family Businesses of the Polish Confederation Lewiatan.
Krzysztof Domarecki - Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Selena FM S.A. – parent company in the Selena Group. Founder of Selena S.A. manufacturer and exporter of construction chemicals. For his activities Krzysztof Domarecki was awarded in the “Entrepreneur of the Year” competition organised by Ernst & Young in the “Corporate Social Responsibility” category; he also received the title “He who Changes the Polish Industry” from the "New Industry" economic monthly magazine (”Nowy Przemysł”) and the Mayor of Wrocław Prize for “placing Wrocław economy in the global network of relations and for creating a recognizable corporate brand”.
Józef Rolnik – Vice-President of Rolnik - the undisputed leader of the Polish fruit and vegetable processing industry. Rolnik has received many awards, both in Poland and abroad, inter alia the Business Gazelle prize awarded by Puls Biznesu journal to dynamically growing Polish companies in 2003 and 2004, and the Consumer's Quality Certificate in the food category in 1999, 2003, 20004, 2005 and 2006.

The series of meetings for family businesses is supported by the ABC Czepczyński company, which everyday promote the economic education for kids and teens, promoting (amongst others) books as "The world of money" or carrying out the "Economy ABC" in elementary schools to encourage ecnomic development amongs the youngsters, as well as educating the teacher staff on economical issues.
