Cash registers mandatory in car washes — entry into force deferred

Cash registers, 3 October 2022

The decree of the Minister of Finance of 29 September 2022 amending the decree on the exemptions from the obligation to record sales using cash registers stipulates that car wash, cleaning and similar services, including self-service facilities, will no longer be exempt from the cash register obligation from 1 February 2023.

Initially, the above services were intended to be excluded from the exemption already from 1 July 2022. However, that deadline was deferred by three months and the mandatory use of cash registers for the said services was set to come into force on 1 October 2022. In May 2022, the Ministry of Finance announced that to respond to the expectations of businesses, which had reported difficulties with installation of cash registers following e.g. supply chain disruptions, it was deferring the date. The October date was meant to be the final date.

However, the Ministry of Finance claims that in the light of numerous problems reported by businesses, the time when the exemption from the cash register obligation remains available to car washes will be further extended — as the decree of the Minister of Finance of 29 September 2022 provides, the services will have to be recorded in cash registers from 1 February 2023. Initially, the Ministry had planned to defer the date to 1 April 2023.
