This year’s competition was joined by 24 students from University of Bucharest (UB), Bucharest Academy of Economic Studies (ASE), Babes-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca (UBB), West University of Timișoara (UVT), Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iasi (UAIC). The competitors were first and second-year students of master programs in data science, artificial intelligence, machine learning, business analysis, statistics and econometrics.
The awards, consisting of financial prizes and employment opportunities with Deloitte Romania and with Banca Transilvania, were won by Danut Cristinel Stinga, student in the Artificial Intelligence program at the University of Bucharest, who ranked first, Sebastian Calin Coroian, who studies Analysis of Complex Data at Babes-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca and who came in second, and by Adela Bosun, student in the Big Data master program at West University of Timișoara, who received the third prize.
During the two phases of the competition, the contestants were asked to design credit risk models to assess the probability of default of hypothetical banking clients, based on macroeconomic data and on data provided by the organizers, tasks which simulate real professional life.
“This second edition of the Quant competition was received with much enthusiasm among the university professors and among the students.
