Supporting art and culture

What is the context?

As a Russian company, Deloitte CIS is committed to giving an impetus to positive changes in several areas of our society and, among other things, does it by supporting culture and art.

What is the impact?

Over the past years, we have sponsored a number of exhibitions at the State Tretyakov Gallery and the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts and since 2010 we have been a long-term official partner of the St. Petersburg Mikhailovsky Theater. In 2017, as part
of our partnership with The Kolobov Novaya Opera Theatre, we sponsored
the production of the opera Lucia di Lammermoor.

By developing these cultural initiatives, we contribute to the preservation of Russian fine art masterpieces and increase awareness of the rich heritage that exists in the country’s main artistic centers while introducing a wider audience to Russia’s great culture.

What is the context?

The Deloitte Academy is here to meet the demand for quality, industry-specific training services for our clients.

What is the impact?

We provide unique educational services across a broad spectrum of industries, including accounting, taxation, finance, risk management, and internal audit.

Chief Sustainability Officers Club

What is the context?

Embedding sustainability principles across the CIS is in the beginning stages with companies facing a shortage of information on opportunities and risks, in addition to lacking the experience and tools necessary for transferring from a traditional to a “sustainable” business model.

What is the impact?

In order to help companies from multiple industries jointly answer topical questions, become aware of the initiatives of other companies, discuss opportunities and risks related to the integration of sustainability principles and promote a productive dialog to share practical experiences, Deloitte has established the Chief Sustainability Officers Club. Deloitte professionals engaged in embedding sustainability practices across the world participate in the club and share their experience as well.

Why does it matter?

As a platform where professionals can share their experience, the club helps a wide variety of companies to find solutions on how to embed sustainability practices while taking into account the associated risks. Members of the club are industry leaders who have successfully embedded sustainability principles and therefore, have a significant impact on the social economic development of the CIS countries.

What is the context?
According to the concept adopted by the Russian Government, non-financial reporting will be obligatory for companies operating within the country. Non-financial indicators reflect the sustainability of a business – its environmental impact, social responsibility and contribution to the development of regions. A significant number of companies need to implement sustainability practices.

What is the impact?

Deloitte has one of the best sustainability service practices worldwide. Over 900 of Deloitte’s employees around the world assist other companies in developing a sustainability strategy, integrating it into business processes, managing related risks and preparing non-financial reports. 

Why does it matter?

The combination of international experience and local knowledge enables us to successfully provide sustainability services in the CIS by appropriately using resources, minimizing environmental damage, influencing a responsible selection of vendors, carrying out social projects, and implementing many other initiatives affecting both business and society.

Deloitte analytical tools

What is the context?

We always look forward to developing our professional knowledge in order to be recognised as the clear leader on the professional services market. 

What is the impact?

The Deloitte Research Centre provides opportunities to increase cross-functional knowledge. The centre’s specialists conduct all types of market research, including market studies on the micro and macro levels, using a wide range of methodologies – from classical isometry to neurotechnologies. One of the centre’s most popular publications is Russia Through a Lens, a quarterly analytical journal dedicated to key trends in the Russian economy.

These analytical products provide in-depth understanding of the latest industry trends and their implications for business, which constitutes a reliable platform for engaging in quality dialogue with clients.

Helping CFOs advance

What is the context?

As the business world becomes more digital, CFOs and finance executives have to adapt their departments to meet new challenges. The core skills of financial accounting need to be supplemented by new disciplines. At Deloitte, we are keen to guide CFOs through this transition and help them develop new ways of thinking within our CFO programme.

What is the impact?

Within the programme, we run a CFO Transition Lab designed to help newly appointed CFOs successfully transition. Another initiative, The Next Generation CFO Academy, provides training sessions for our clients’ senior finance leaders, aimed at developing technical skills and sharing information about their current role. Our CFO survey highlights key trends that help CFOs see how the expectations of stakeholders change.

According to Deloitte’s mission of being recognized as the pre-eminent advisor to CFOs, our programme brings together a cross-brand approach to help address the demands of CFOs across Russia and the CIS.

Building a green mindset

What is the context?

In its effort to promote the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, Deloitte aims to foster positive attitudes and perceptions with regard to the environment throughout its offices around the world.

What is the impact?

Deloitte in Moscow launches various initiatives each year dedicated to environmental issues. As part of our Green Month initiative, we hold various masterclasses all month long on environmental and consumption issues in our offices and collect items for recycling.

Why does it matter?

Deloitte's green initiatives engaging both staff and their children, support three UN global goals: clean water and sanitation, affordable and clean energy, and responsible consumption and production.

Start your business with Deloitte

What is the context?

Many corporate employees dream of starting their own business. However, a lack of relevant knowledge holds them back.

What is the impact?

Deloitte launched a programme to help employees turn their ideas into real businesses without them having to take time off. UP2Start offers them pro-bono coaching and a variety of educational master classes. Those who choose not to go further with their project will still have an opportunity to hone their skills, which they can later use to develop their professional career.

Why does it matter?

UP2Start provides our people with the opportunity to explore and grow their entrepreneurial potential by making their dream of building their own business come true! In addition, the ideas developed within the programme will make a positive impact on society.

Innovative working conditions

What is the context?

The development of new technologies is changing personnel practices and the way business is conducted. To benefit from these changes and to encourage our employees to reach their full potential, Deloitte aims to develop innovative working practices.

What is the impact?

Deloitte has a programme in place to promote flexibility in terms of where, when and how our employees work.

Why does it matter?

Flexible working conditions enable our people to successfully manage the many demands of our work while providing them space for a healthy work-life balance. 

Improving the investment climate in Kazakhstan

What is the context?

The government of Kazakhstan has decided to create the necessary conditions for blockchain projects and crypto-currencies in order to become a leader in the global crypto-economics niche. For this purpose, the government has requested Deloitte professionals to create the required legal framework.

What is the impact?

Deloitte professionals along with their associates have developed legislation regulating cryptocurrency transactions, cryptoasset projects, and a whole ecosystem for the use of blockchain technology.

Why does it matter?

The project helps foster dialogue among businesses, citizens, and the government while improving the investment climate in Kazakhstan.

Supporting Ukrainian Cinema

What is the context?

The project Watch Ukrainian: Create Your Future has been established in order to promote Ukrainian cinema and improve the quality of information channels. As part of the project, young, talented people and honoured professionals are creating short films portraying social values.

What is the impact?

Deloitte supports this project by insuring representatives who act as jury members to select meaningful scenarios and invest in filmmaking. As part of the project, 20 films have been shot. They are being shown in cinema theaters before feature presentations.

Why does it matter?

Meaningful ideas attract young, talented people to the project in order to promote Ukrainian cinema and increase its audience. The project also contributes to establishing stable development trends in Ukrainian society.

Creating a new generation of business leaders in Belarus

What is the context?

A significant number of university graduates dream of one day building a career in an international company. Every year Deloitte provides students with the knowledge to meet this goal, trains them on what is expected of potential newcomers, and offers them a real chance to start a career.

What is the impact?

Within the best practice sharing programme, university graduates acquire business knowledge from our professionals and analyze real business cases. Those involved in the programme are invited to an interview. Deloitte Belarus provides job offers to those graduates who show the best results during these sessions.

Why does it matter?

Thanks to this Deloitte programme in Belarus, students are given a chance to receive valuable knowledge necessary for building a career in professional services and to get on the fast track to making their professional dreams a reality.

Helping transform Georgia’s financial sector

What is the context?

In terms of the transformation of Georgia’s financial sector, banks and other financial organisations must comply with IFRS 9. The new regulation significantly changes the preparation and publication of IFRS financial statements. Deloitte helps banks make that shift more efficiently.

What is the impact?

Deloitte specialists organised a workshop for the National Bank and some of the largest financial organisations in Georgia. During the workshop, they explained the key steps for the adoption of IFRS 9 along with the key challenges of the transformation and ways to manage them.

Why does it matter?

Through Deloitte’s hard work, Georgia’s financial sector will be better prepared to face any challenges and contribute to a seamless transformation.

Preparing new teachers for Ukrainian schools

What is the context?

The teaching profession has been losing prestige and going through an acute shortage of skilled professionals, leading to a steady decline in the quality of education in Ukrainian schools. To help solve this problem, the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine joined the “Teach For All” international initiative. As part of this project, top university graduates and young professionals from various backgrounds willing to try their hand at teaching are educated and encouraged to teach in schools.

What is the impact?

As one of the project’s associates and members of its Advisory Board, Deloitte specialists participate in screening and assessing future teachers. During pro-bono workshops, training sessions, and lectures our professionals share their best practices.

Why does it matter?

The project is helping to transform the country’s educational system by drawing from Deloitte’s international experience and significant knowledge to prepare new teachers who are excited about their profession.

Caring about the health of our people

What is the context?

Deloitte aims to provide a work environment conducive not only to the professional, but also to the physical prosperity of its employees.

What is the impact?

To maintain the good health of its people Deloitte runs a Wellbeing initiative, which includes medical examinations, an immunization program, healthy living workshops, seminars with a psychologist, yoga and meditation classes, and doors open days with major fitness clubs. We also hold regular tryouts to encourage our employees to be physically active during the day.

Moreover, Deloitte teams compete against other companies in the most popular kinds of sports as hockey, football, softball, basketball, volleyball, and running.

Why does it matter?

Our Wellbeing initiative has a big following inside Deloitte. By promoting the health and emotional wellbeing of our people we help them achieve greater success and become happier.  

Sharing knowledge at Russia’s forums

What is the context?

By stimulating economic development, the Russian government creates the right conditions for dialog between authorities, representatives of big business, and public figures. Each year, Deloitte takes part in business forums that serve as important platforms for discussing global issues.

What is the impact?

Deloitte is a partner of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, the Moscow Financial Forum, and the Finopolis Forum. Our specialists also take part in the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok to discuss the future of the Asia-Pacific region.

Why does it matter?

During these key events, we share our research findings and serve as moderators at panel sessions. By providing international knowledge, Deloitte contributes to lively discussions and ensures that polarised views are represented when key issues facing the Russian economy are being examined.

Increasing efficiency in charitable organizations

What is the context?

As a firm dedicated to social responsibility, Deloitte aims to involve its people in the charitable activities that it promotes all year long.

What is the impact?

Every year we raise more than RUB 1.5 million during our Extra Mile Race in the autumn and our Christmas Bazaar in the winter. To further drive and extend the reach of these events, we encourage our employees, clients, partners, friends, and their families to take part.

Why does it matter?

In order to maximise the impact of these initiatives on improving society, we invest the money we raise into the development of the management systems of the chosen charity foundations. The funds go toward hiring highly qualified professionals who can make sure that the projects are properly run and are capable of solving society’s problems.

Making NGOs smarter

What is the context?

Non-governmental organisations (NGOs) tend to be under-funded in terms of the resources needed to train and develop their professionals. This lack of managerial know-how leads to low operational efficiency.

What is the impact?

Deloitte runs Practicum, a project aimed at sharing the best professional practices with NGOs on a pro bono basis. As part of the project, we provide high-quality training, seminars, and master classes on topics in which NGOs experience insufficient knowledge.

Why does it matter?

The project helps to increase the efficiency of how these organisations operate. Our professionals help them to become well structured in order to attract better applicants and promote their goals in a more efficient way. Practicum helps NGOs play a more meaningful role in improving our society.

Compete as you walk

What is the context?

One of Deloitte’s priorities is its employees’ physical and moral wellbeing. Throughout the year we launch various programmes aimed at promoting the healthy lifestyle. A month-long Step It Up challenge  we hold each spring is one such programme.

What is the solution?

As part of the contest, people split into teams that try to take as many steps as possible. To achieve that, Deloitte employees start using the stairs more, go walking after lunch and after hours or go on hiking trips. This contest is very popular in the Firm, attracting over 400 participants across the CIS.

Why does it matter?

In the end, the top-performing teams win valuable prizes. However, there are no losers, as each participant wins the main trophy – an energy boost and improved wellbeing. The challenge even makes many contestants permanently change their habits as they continue stepping it up after it is over, strengthening their health in the process.
