Deloitte named to Fortune’s 'Change the World' list

Singapore, 28 August 2018 Fortune has named Deloitte to its prestigious 2018 “Change the World” list, a yearly ranking of top businesses that do well by doing good. The only professional services network to be listed, Deloitte is featured on this year’s list for its work to prepare clients and its people for the technological changes of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

However, bringing fresh perspectives to clients and training the next generation of business leaders is only part of Deloitte’s commitment. WorldClass, an organization-wide societal impact initiative, aligns Deloitte’s efforts around a global ambition. Deloitte’s societal commitment also goes beyond education and skills development. In FY2018 alone, additional Deloitte societal impact initiatives included: award-winning work showcasing the social and economic value of the Great Barrier Reef in Australia; cooperating with the Refugee Studies Center at the University of Oxford on a cross-border initiative focused on realizing the economic potential of refugees living in Europe; and serving as the lead innovation partner for UNLEASH 2018 held in Singapore, a global initiative aimed at inspiring and supporting the next generation of leaders who are developing solutions to some of the most vexing problems facing the world today.

“UNLEASH turned out to be a true definition of ‘Living our Purpose’ and we are honoured to be part of this project. This year in Singapore, 1,000 young talents came here very solution-oriented for a five-day innovation lab that was facilitated by 50 Deloitte professionals who applied their business capabilities and innovation experience to guide young entrepreneurs towards creating tangible solutions connected to education, skills and access to opportunity,” says Philip Yuen, Deloitte Southeast Asia and Singapore CEO.

The “Change the World” list recognizes businesses that have had a positive societal impact through activities that are part of their core business strategy. Fortune prioritizes organizations with annual revenues of $1 billion or more. Recognition is based on four indicators:

  1. Measurable social impact: Fortune considers the reach, nature, and durability of the company's impact on one or more specific societal problems. This category receives extra weight.
  2. Business results: Fortune considers the benefit the socially impactful work brings to the company. Profitability and contribution to shareholder value outweigh benefits to the company's' reputation.
  3. Degree of innovation: Fortune considers how innovative the company's effort is relative to that of others in its industry and whether other companies have followed its example.
  4. Corporate integration: Fortune considers how integral the initiative is to a company's overall strategy, and how well that strategy is communicated through the ranks and elsewhere.
