Singapore CFO Forum

Financing a sustainable future

We held our first live CFO Forum in 2021 on 29 January around the theme, financing a sustainable future.

Mohit Grover, Sustainability Leader for Deloitte SEA, kick-started the session with his sharing of key global trends in the area of sustainability; climate change, shift to renewables, sustainable food & agriculture, waste management, sustainable financing and green consumerism. With heightened awareness around environment, social and governance (ESG), investors are now looking to CFOs for the organisation’s ESG agenda and it is imperative on CFOs to account this value into the organisation’s financial performance.

Our guest speaker, Rishi Kalra, MD and CFO of Olam Food Ingredients, shared on its multi-capital approach on sustainability, which allows all the business units to manage a broad set of drives beyond financial capital and drive net positive change across the organisation.

The session concluded with a fireside chat with Rishi and it highlighted key steps for CFOs to consider for their sustainability initiatives;

  • Importance of CFOs viewing sustainability as an opportunity for value creation
  • Sustainable finance strategies
  • Tracking and measuring sustainability initiatives in financial terms – understanding your assets, and the tools and techniques to measure
  • Communicating the sustainability story to both investors and internal stakeholders – key to getting them along on your sustainability journey
