Deloitte presents sustainability award in Design Excellence Awards 2015

Design Sustainability and Design Thinking

The recent Design Excellence Awards (DEA) Singapore was held on 23 October 2015 at the Singapore Repertory Theatre. Organised yearly, the Interior Design Confederation Singapore hopes to recognise and celebrate local professional practitioners’ achievements as well as that of talented, budding designers from art and design institutions. This year, the awards received the highest participation since its rebranding in 2011.

Deloitte Southeast Asia was one of the category sponsors for the student segment of the DEA called SPADE (Spatial Design Awards). The award presented by Deloitte was named the Interior Design for Sustainability Student Award (IDSSA).

Deloitte evaluated all project entries received from 78 students, to select one that best portrays an environment friendly, earth sustaining design. The award went to Ngieng Ji Xuan of Nanyang Polytechnic, whose project – The Living Shell – best denoted an environmental consideration in design, with the intertwining of natural elements with forward thinking design study for a greater social cause. The winning student was given the opportunity to join the Deloitte Sustainability team to promote Design Sustainability and Design Thinking.

Deloitte believes that sustainability is about pursuing responsible growth by designing and delivering new or existing products and services in ways that meet the needs of the present, without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. Growing demands on organisations to operate in a responsible manner have resulted in an increasing focus on sustainability.

“At Deloitte, we bring our deep expertise to partner with our clients to achieve their sustainability goals. Through sponsoring this award, we want to show our commitment to drive responsible growth and encourage aspiring individuals who are able to translate their vision for sustainability into innovative design,” says Swapnil Deshpande, Sustainability Leader, Deloitte Southeast Asia.
