BCA Innovation Imperative report
Creating a culture of innovation
Innovation has a vital role to play in driving growth and productivity improvement if Australia is to sustain and raise the nation’s living standards.
Innovation has a vital role to play in driving growth and productivity improvement if Australia is to sustain and raise the nation’s living standards. As globalisation and digital disruption impose new challenges on Australia’s competitiveness, business, government and not for profit sectors must work together to create a culture of innovation – one of considered risk-taking, a resilient workforce and an environment of constant renewal.
Commissioned by the Business Council of Australia (BCA), Deloitte’s Australia's Innovation Imperative accompanies the BCA’s submission to the Senate Economics Reference Committee inquiry into the Australian Innovation System. It acknowledges the important role business must play by being creative and flexible through product, service and business-model differentiation.
The BCA’s submission highlights how the Senate Inquiry can achieve bipartisan agreement on a new aproach to innovation in Australia. The council says this should reflect a shared understanding of what makes an innovation system effective, and the multiple, interconnected government policies involved in delivering it. The Senate inquiry is due to report on the first parliamentary sitting day of July 2015.
