TV Series Sector in Turkey

According to Deloitte Turkey’s report, the revenue generated from TV series exports has increased by 15 times over the past 5 years. The viewers who spend an average of 4 hours per day watching TV mostly prefer romantic series. As an industry with a high consumption appetite, more than half of the TV series which are aired in a season, are cancelled before the end of the season.

Accoding to the ‘World’s Most Colorful Screen: TV Series Sector in Turkey’ report the hours Turkish TV viewers spend in front of the TV have decreased from 4,4 to 3,9 between 2008-2014, due to the increasing internet usage and online video watching.  Despite this decrease, Turkey is still above the OECD average of 3,5 hours. 

An analysis of the TV shows aired during primetime in the 2013-2014 season reveals that TV series have the first place having a % 62,5 of the primetime share including reruns. Additionally, amongst all different series themes the ones with elements of romanticism are the most preferred.     

According to the report, 60% of the TV series in Turkey last between 120 to 180 minutes including the duration of the commercials. TV series that last less than 60 minutes are extremely few in Turkey, despite short series are common in other countries.

Based on the research, among the TV series that are still on air by the end of 2013-2014 season, Arka Sokaklar takes the first place (336 episodes)  followed by Kurtlar Vadisi Pusu (229 episodes) and Cocuklar Duymasın (156 episodes) in terms of number of episodes.
