Deloitte CBC CFO, Natasha Ruscheinski shares her perspectives on... "Why Deloitte?"
"For me, it’s always been Deloitte."
From being a Deloitte bursary student in university, completing my articles at Deloitte Johannesburg and then moving to Deloitte BVI on secondment, where I have stayed for the past 9 years. Sometimes I think we underestimate the opportunity working at Deloitte provides. It’s easy to forget that not all firms operate like we do. The culture at Deloitte is unique – we are part of one of the biggest and most successful professional services firms, yet whichever office you go to, you feel like you fit in and you’re part of a big family – that’s not an easy thing to achieve.
In terms of my career progression, I had the opportunity to move out of audit after 6 years and join the integration team in 2013, which evolved into a CBC-wide operational role. I was appointed CFO in February this year and although it is daunting to take on a role like this, everyone has been extremely supportive and I think the transition has gone smoothly, thanks to the CBC finance team and CBC leadership. It’s very exciting to see Deloitte go ALL IN and focus on creating an organization where everyone has equal opportunity to grow, develop and succeed. I look forward to being a part of this important strategy and supporting colleagues in the most effective way I can. I am privileged to have worked with and learned from some strong leaders and mentors and I hope to be able empower others in a similar way.
I am what some people refer to as a “joiner”, I love being involved in as many things as possible (probably to my own detriment at times!). Deloitte is great at providing opportunities for staff to get involved – from sporting events (I probably have more Deloitte-branded sports gear then I have normal clothes) to community involvement. I remember my first Impact Day in South Africa, being amazed at the fact that this was part of the job and how it was a global activity. I founded an animal welfare non-profit organisation in the BVI five years ago (PAW BVI) and believe strongly in trying to do as much as you can to make an impact in the community. Never underestimate how much of a difference YOU can make – it’s often overwhelming and you feel as though you can’t make a difference because you’re just one person, but doing something small is better than doing nothing at all – so just start somewhere!
