Senior Consultant, Financial Advisory
What do you like most about your role?
Deloitte challenges its employees to be constantly one step ahead. This expectation becomes increasingly evident as one moves through the entry to senior levels within the organization. As a Senior Consultant, I thoroughly enjoy being given the chance to manage projects while developing Junior Staff on engagements. Essentially, the Senior Consultant role affords you the opportunity to truly challenge yourself by learning and developing the requisite skill-sets necessary for the Managerial level.
What attracted you to Deloitte?
I started working at Deloitte by chance, as I was offered a temporary position within the HR department. However, I was convinced to stay on as an Analyst within the Consulting department after having experienced first-hand Deloitte’s ‘As One’ Strategy in practice. I was impressed with the team culture at the firm and enjoyed working with other professionals from around the world. Additionally, after having lived in the United States for 5 years, the option for mobility coupled with vast opportunities for knowledge transfer made my decision to become a permanent member of the Deloitte team an easy one.
Describe your day to day role
Working in advisory involves numerous day-to-day tasks from business development to client service. This may involve writing proposals, attending meetings, delivering presentations, facilitating workshops, drafting reports, conducting research and completing document reviews – All of which require attention to detail, the ability to multi-task and excellent verbal and written communication skills. The ability to critically analyze and think on your feet is also leveraged on a daily basis at Deloitte.
What else have your been involved with since joining Deloitte?
The support received from my mentors at Deloitte has afforded me global opportunities in training and development. This includes Deloitte training in Bogota, Colombia; an Innovation and Entrepreneurship Symposium in Shanghai, China; and now the pursuit of my Master’s degree in London. I have also received formalized Project Management training which was sponsored by the firm, and I have been involved in business development opportunities across the Caribbean Region. Beyond these opportunities in formal training and during my spare time from client engagements, I have served as Team Lead for our Habitat for Humanity IMPACT Day 2011 and the Cyril Ross Nursery IMPACT Day 2012, while being a volunteer for our firm’s Deloitte 21 initiative.
What is Deloitte’s role in your longer term career goals?
During my time at Deloitte advising numerous public sector clients, I have come to realize that my passion resides with helping governments improve on their strategic management and human capital initiatives. By advising public sector clients across a variety of industries, I am able to leverage international best practices to produce best-fit solutions. I hope to one day be able to draw upon this experience in service to the Government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago in whichever capacity presents itself in the future.
What have you enjoyed most?
As part of the Consulting and Advisory team we have been able to develop a deliverables oriented culture of management which in turn allows us flexible work schedules, provided that the service to our clients does not suffer and that we continue to produce project deliverables of the highest quality. As a result of these flexible working schedules, we are able to better manage the demands of pressing deadlines and constantly changing conditions with minimal supervision while effectively maintaining work-life balance.
