Strengthening OT Security as the Cornerstone of Enterprise Growth :

Deloitte Taiwan Assists a Company in Achieving IEC 62443-3-3 Certification, Setting a New Industry Benchmark

【March 05, 2025】With the arrival of Industry 4.0 and the rapid progression of digital transformation, interconnected devices have created new operational and cybersecurity risks. Traditionally, attackers were thought to first penetrate IT systems before accessing Operational Technology (OT) environments. However, recent findings suggest that OT devices themselves increasingly serve as direct entry points, intensifying cybersecurity challenges for businesses.

To raise enterprise awareness and sensitivity toward cybersecurity measures and monitoring, Deloitte Taiwan held the "Buffalo Machinery × Deloitte Taiwan × Bureau Veritas IEC 62443-3-3 Certification Ceremony" on March 4th. Buffalo Machinery is the first CNC machine manufacturer in Taiwan to receive the ISA/IEC 62443-3-3 certification, underscoring its excellence in functionality and cybersecurity. This achievement also aims to heighten awareness among other businesses regarding cybersecurity standards and practices, laying a solid groundwork for their global expansion.

Max Lin, Managing Partner of Deloitte Taiwan’s Technology and Transformation Services, highlighted the importance for OT-focused companies to maintain strong cybersecurity, even as they enhance operational efficiency and productivity. In addition to already established IT cybersecurity measures, companies should solidify their OT security through certifications and protective strategies. IEC 62443, currently the only universally recognized industrial cybersecurity standard, provides clear guidelines for implementation. By establishing and effectively executing robust management systems, enterprises can greatly reduce cybersecurity risks, enhance their brand reputation, and strengthen market competitiveness.

Dr. Chang, Chairman of Buffalo Machinery Co., Ltd., remarked that the rapid advancement of intelligent manufacturing makes digital transformation an irreversible trend. Yet, as productivity and efficiency improve, so too do OT security risks. As an industry leader in intelligent machinery, Buffalo Machinery consistently integrates security into its product development and proactively adopts international safety standards. Receiving IEC 62443-3-3 certification for its AXILE CNC machine series highlights Buffalo Machinery’s proactive strategy and technical capabilities in OT security, enhancing its global competitive edge. The company will continue to integrate intelligent manufacturing with robust OT security, working closely with customers and industry partners to build a safer and more efficient smart manufacturing ecosystem.

Jim Chiu, Head of Business Development Division at Bureau Veritas, noted the successful collaboration with Deloitte Taiwan in guiding enterprises toward achieving IEC 62443-3-3 certification. This accomplishment underscores their combined expertise in industrial cybersecurity. The certification not only improves product and service security but also enhances the competitiveness of certified enterprises in the market. Chiu emphasized that IEC 62443-3-3 is one of the most authoritative certifications in industrial automation and control systems. Deloitte Taiwan and Bureau Veritas provide comprehensive OT security support, enabling sustainable business growth during digital transformation.

Machinery manufacturers face increasingly severe OT security challenges amid their digital transformations. Deloitte Taiwan’s cybersecurity team offers comprehensive solutions based on the ISA/IEC 62443 international framework, including asset inventory management, architecture adjustment, machinery safety assessments, and process optimization. These systematic solutions establish standardized global management practices, strengthen cybersecurity measures, reduce risks of production interruptions from operational mistakes, inadequate cybersecurity awareness, or cyberattacks, and effectively mitigate malware impacts.

This certification, provided by Bureau Veritas, a global leader in testing, inspection, and certification, significantly upgrades product safety, enhances stability and reliability, and ensures compliance with global regulatory standards, assisting companies in expanding their international market presence.
