What were some of the factors that led you to pursue your career at Deloitte?
I joined Deloitte fresh out of college. I find the prospect of finding smart solutions to problems that exist very appealing. The profile of an Analyst in Risk & Financial Advisory offers just that!
In your own words, how would you describe Deloitte's distinctive culture?
What I find unique about Deloitte is that a book isn't judged by its cover here. You can be yourself and still pursue a career in this great organization. Deloitte provides a unique opportunity where our diversity is not only acknowledged but also celebrated. It allows us to be comfortable and happy in our own skin which in turn enhances the quality of work we do.
What stands out for you as the greatest benefit of working at Deloitte?
During my orientation I recall the leadership saying that the people are Deloitte’s greatest asset. I believe that it isn't just a line said mechanically but something that is backed up by actions. The organization takes constant measures to ensure that we are in our best mental and physical health. From organizing regular sessions on mental wellbeing to elaborate and entertaining family days, Deloitte ensures that everyone in the Deloitte family is happy and healthy.
Tell us about your career path at Deloitte—
I've been with the organization as an analyst for almost two years. As I start with my third year in the organization, I know there will be a gradual increase in my responsibilities and which I look forward to. I have a very supportive team who helps me to handle critical responsibilities with confidence and provides me with feedback when needed. I believe that recognition and rewards come hand in hand with good work and that I must keep learning and evolving with the help of constructive criticism.
One of my favorite aspects of my career so far is being a part of an organization that promotes an open-door policy. This allows me to just walk up to people across levels, have great conversations and exchange ideas.
What is one of the most memorable moments in your career at Deloitte so far?
I’ll count a session that I conducted for the Assurance and Internal Audit team on the importance of mental wellbeing as one of the most memorable moments in my Deloitte career. It was a significant moment for me because as soon as I let my Senior Manager on the floor know that mental wellbeing is an important topic and it’s something close to my heart, he provided me a stage where I can talk about it. I'm scared of public speaking. But in this occasion, I was excited and happy to speak to my colleagues on a relevant topic that often goes unaddressed.
How do you describe what you do at Deloitte to friends and family?
I tell my family and friends that I'm part of the Assurance and Internal Audit Team at Deloitte. I further let them know that I'm part of the team that ensures companies are enforcing required regulations and guidelines to be compliant with the law. I explain to them that something as small as one person having incorrect or unauthorized access can have a huge impact on the financial statement of a company and it is my job to ensure that never happens.
Who are you outside of Deloitte? (Hobbies, passions, interests)
People are often surprised to know that I'm a Civil Engineer since I work in the domain of Information Technology. During my weekends I like to spend time with my friends and family. I have a four-year-old Shih Tzu called Brandy, who is the heart and soul of my family. I enjoy doing yoga and other home workouts with my mom. I travel quite often with my friends and we are always in the process of planning our next vacation. When I have time for myself, I enjoy catching up on the latest TV shows, listening to music, or browsing through Pinterest.
What is one piece of advice you would give to someone interested in joining Deloitte?
Deloitte has a place for everyone in its family. I would advise them to be true to themselves and showcase their talents to the best of their abilities. From my experience during recruitment I learnt that it’s okay to admit that you don't know all the answers, but it's important to show that you're willing to learn.
