Having the ambition to look further

Caitlin from Guernsey studied law, but chose a different route with us because she wanted to keep her future as wide open as possible. Here are her thoughts on why she joined, and where she wants to go with us next.

When did you join Deloitte and what’s your role within the company?

I joined Deloitte in September 2016, having recently graduated from the University of Aberdeen with a law degree. I started in Audit and Advisory and I am now a Senior Associate.

Why Audit and Advisory? And why Deloitte?

I enjoyed studying law but found the qualification to be too geographically restrictive, so I sought a career in accountancy which can take you anywhere in the world, and audit appealed to my regulatory-based experience.

I was fortunate to attend a number of career fairs and evenings and the Deloitte employees always appeared more interesting and engaging, so I thought I could fit in well with the firm.

What do you like best about working here?

Deloitte is very supportive in your studies for chartered accountancy and receptive to individuals who want to be part of something bigger than just their assigned work. Thanks to this I am on the sports and social committee and have received mental health first aid training.

But without a doubt, the best thing about Deloitte is the people, I have made some lifelong friends in the short time I have been here.

What are your interests outside of work?

I love to travel and play sports. Last summer I cycled solo from Toulouse to Barcelona through the Pyrenees.

I am also fortunate to live on Guernsey which means that sailing, sea kayaking, and relaxing on the beach are all regular activities. When it’s too cold in the winter, I take part in life drawing with a fantastic group of locals.

So, that’s a taste of life in Audit and Advisory with us. If it’s inspired you to join us, here’s where to go.
