Bethan Williams – Tackling new challenges in Tax has been saved
Rugby mad Bethan enjoys the flexibly of working as an Analyst in our Tax team in Cardiff. She’s learning new skills every day and working with people all around the globe.
How did you join Deloitte?
After completing my A-Levels at school, I decided to get started on my career and joined Deloitte through the BrightStart programme.
What does your role involve?
I work with a variety of different clients who all have employees who move between different locations around the world. My team works with colleagues in overseas offices to advise clients and employees about the tax implications of moving around the world in their roles.
Do your days change from day to day?
Throughout compliance season (December/January) I spent the majority of my time preparing tax returns for various different clients. But at other times of the year my day to day is completely different.
Most days I’m in contact with our overseas offices discussing shared clients and requesting various bits of data that we may need in the UK. I also hold UK tax briefings with our globally mobile assignees. This involves discussing the tax implications of their move abroad/to the UK and answering any questions they may have regarding their UK tax affairs.
What has been your most memorable moment so far?
This has to be the first time I received some positive feedback. After working hard and not really knowing what I was doing for a few weeks it was great to have some reassurance that I was doing a good job!
What do you enjoy most about your job?
I really enjoy the versatility. No day is the same. This means that I’m constantly learning and always working on something new and exciting. Everybody at Deloitte has been so welcoming and really made me feel like a part of the team.
Why would you say Deloitte is a good place to work?
The clients you get to work with are all so different. You’re always experiencing something new and everybody is genuinely super nice and eager to help.
Are you given opportunities to work flexibly?
Deloitte is great for working flexibly. Working from home or leaving work early is always an option whenever you need it.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I’m a big rugby fan, so I enjoy going to watch Wales and the Dragons play.
