Cathy Ojany – Bringing the best out of people every day

As an Associate Director in our market leading Incentives & Rewards team in Reading, she’s achieving great things and helping others do the same.

How did you join Deloitte and what are you responsible for in your role?

I started my career in corporate tax compliance however, I found I thrived better in non-compliance roles where every project usually varies from the last. It made this role perfect for me.

I advise companies on how to reward and incentivisetheir employees through effective and tax-efficient remuneration structures that I help to design, establish and operate. This includes share ownership to help people feel part of the businesses they work in.

What’s a typical day like for you?

More and more companies are recognising the correlation between employee share ownership and reward with an increase in employee performance and engagement. In fact, we’re expecting massive growth in the industry as uptake increases. As part of our Incentives & Reward team, I help our clients realise the potential this offers.

As Deloitte is a market leader in this area, I love being a part of it and in an environment where I feel I’m continuously developing.

There are around 150 of us in GES in Reading alone, which is great as there’s an ‘all hands on deck’ approach to making things happen!

What was your most memorable moment on the job so far?

Improving how we communicate share incentive awards to employees has created a simpler, more interactive and visually attractive means of communication. I was excited to be involved at the forefront of this project. I’m alsoproud of the growth of the team and our position as market leaders in the Thames Valley area.

What’s the best part of your job and in what ways is your team innovative?

Every business’s greatest asset is its people! So, what we do affects business performance, as well as people’s job satisfaction. That’s why we build innovation into employee incentive schemes that reflect business needs, vision and culture.

Deloitte also encourages employees to be creative and innovative, and do things differently. Everyone has a voice and is heard.

Why would you recommend Deloitte to someone?

I like coming into work. The best thing about Deloitte is its teamwork and supportive culture. We work very much as one team, meeting regularly to share experiences and move work around to ensure that no one individual is under undue pressure and that everyone is getting the support and experience they need, at the right level.

How are you supported to work flexibly and what do you do in your spare time?

The agile working policy gives me a work/home balance which makes all the difference to myself and my family’s wellbeing. I work from home on Wednesdays and the Southampton office (which is near home) on Fridays.

I love family time with my children, my partner and our dog! I also mentor a 15-year-old at one of my local schools.
