How did you join Deloitte?

I began my career in sports and fitness but after wanting a career change, I joined Deloitte as an apprentice two years ago.

What are you responsible for in your role?

As part of the Cutover team, I’m responsible for ensuring the smooth transferal of data from our legacy SAP system to the new S/4 Hana system. I’m currently training hard to achieve my SAP Cloud Certificate.

What’s a typical day like for you?

When I’m working on a project, I attend lots of progress meetings. These often involve offshore colleagues from India and the USA, who are keen to understand how the cutover progress is developing.

I also work closely with the Data and Security teams to resolve issues and understand what roles needed to be assigned to project members. Cutover also involves Business Readiness, managing the freeze of data and planning mitigation for what steps need to be completed when data is frozen.

Off project, I cover training material specific to my next role, which may be focused on Supply Chain, Technology or Finance. As my project title is a delivery role, I’ve not had much hands-on experience with SAP, so I’m training hard to get certified in SAP.

What’s the best part of your job and in what ways is your team innovative?

It’s how connected you feel with new work colleagues. In my spare time I play a lot of football and Gaelic football, so I love being part of a team. Whenever you face a problem here, however big or small, there is always someone to help. Everyone is happy to help me learn.

What was your most memorable moment on the job so far?

This would have to be our Enterprise Application Away day. How one day can bring everyone together, just shows what a great company this is. There are lots of social events this shows the importance of networking together.

This week is National Apprentice Week, would recommend Deloitte as a place to start your career?

I would highly recommend Deloitte. They’ve got so much offer. You’ll join a great team, travel to destinations all over the globe and have the flexibility to work remotely. You can gain experience in different roles on projects spanning Cutover, Testing, Project Management. Deloitte lets you get out of your comfort zone and be innovative in the workplace.
