Charlie’s Story

How did you join Deloitte?

I applied to the analyst program in my 3rd year of university, before deferring the offer to join a year later. I am now an Analyst in the Actuarial, Rewards & Analytics team.

What are you responsible for in your role?

Most of my time is spent in client offices working as a member of their team, which often presents new and interesting challenges. I calculate and check pension calculations and deal directly with questions members have about the scheme and entitlements. I also get a chance to work on and suggest improvements to pension processes, which is a very important and rewarding part of the role for me.

What was your most memorable moment on the job so far?

Receiving my first formal client feedback, which was thankfully very positive. It was really enjoyable to learn that my hard work was appreciated. This motivated me to keep going on the same path.

What’s the best part of your job and in what ways is your team innovative?

I enjoy working with like-minded, ambitious people who want to produce the best results for Deloitte and their clients. I prefer working in a team and the people here are all great to work with.

Why would you recommend Deloitte to someone?

You get to meet and work alongside all sorts of people here. This makes it a great place to learn and start your career.

How are you supported with your professional education?

I’m given a generous allowance of study time compared to other employers. Deloitte also fund any materials that I need for my exams. The managers are very supportive and well aware that study should come first when exams are in the near future.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I love to travel. I’m looking forward to being a part of Deloitte’s charity challenges that will allow me to travel the world.

Henry’s Story

How did you join Deloitte?

After joining the consulting graduate programme straight after university, I now work as an analyst in the Actuarial, Rewards & Analytics team.

What are you responsible for in your role?

Primarily I work in Capital Markets Group. Many of my responsibilities involve the ongoing development of Deloitte’s economic scenario generator XSG. I put the software to work for our clients and assist them with XSG-related queries. I also work on other projects when needed.

What’s a typical day like for you?

Every day is different, but it usually starts with a discussion with my managers to prioritise work for the day. This involves updating the code in our team’s tools or using XSG to produce files for clients. If I have time, I also work on less urgent tasks like department newsletters or preparing materials for graduate recruitment. It really depends what project I’m working on. Then, at the end of the day, I update my managers on my progress.

What was your most memorable moment on the job so far?

Working abroad for a project based in the Netherlands. I’ve been working there four days a week and one day in London. The work is technical and quite challenging, but very engaging.

What’s the best part of your job and in what ways is your team innovative?

I get so many opportunities to learn new skills. I work with smart, highly skilled people that are always happy to answer questions. Our team is constantly researching mathematical models or devising new ones to ensure that XSG is a market leading economic scenario generator.

Why would you recommend Deloitte to someone?

I’ve worked with some exceptionally intelligent people and there’s a friendly, sociable office culture. A number of my colleagues have become some of my closest friends.

How are you supported to work flexibly?

There’s no problem working from home when you are not needed in the office for a specific reason. You can save work online and access it remotely.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I enjoy watching sport and having a kick-a-bout. I play five-a-side with a Deloitte team most weekends.
