When did you join Deloitte and what is your role within the company?

My journey started back in 2017 when I enrolled in the BrightStart programme. This scheme let me join Deloitte as soon as I got my A-levels. This really appealed to me because I could get my career going quicker and earn the same qualifications as someone who joins Deloitte after university.

What made you pursue a career in your field?

My dad has a background in accounting and I always had a strong interest in maths and economics at school. It’s easy to see why I was attracted to a career in accounting very early on.

Tax specifically appealed to me due to its complexity and the huge impact it has on the economy. And it was a great help being able to get advice off my dad about finding the right career path.

What do you like best about working for Deloitte?

The people. The clients. The flexibility. The team I work in is made up of lots of great people who definitely make coming into work more enjoyable. It’s very rewarding to work with companies that I see in my day-to-day life and if I ever need to leave early or work from home Deloitte make this easy.

What memorable moments and achievements stick out from your time here?

Passing the certificate level of my ACA qualification was a big achievement. Six exams down, just another nine to go! My time at the Analyst Academy also stands out. Despite being a challenging three weeks, the activities I took part in and the people I met made it a fantastic experience.

And finally, helping the Deloitte touch rugby team avoid the wooden spoon was certainly an achievement worth mentioning. Although I’m definitely more comfortable with crunching numbers than crunching tackles.

Reflect back in 2018, what were your key motivation drivers; how has your creativity help you overcome challenges experienced at work?

My key driver was to take every opportunity to develop. For most of the year, I was still in my first year with Deloitte so I was still fairly new to the company and the role. I just wanted to take as much information on as possible and take every opportunity to develop my skills.
