Manchester City fan Niall is anything but blue after BrightStart has set him on course to a successful career as a Consultant in our Global Employer Services team.
When did you join Deloitte and what is your role within the company?
I joined the Global Employer Services team in September 2015. We offer a broad range of services, mainly relating to international assignments, employee reward and benefits, design of incentive plans and executive remuneration.
My focus is on the design and implementation of share-based incentive plans, covering tax, regulatory and accounting considerations, as well as reviewing the impact of corporate transactions on incentive arrangements.
What made you pursue a career in your field?
I hadn’t planned on working in tax but when I looked at the level of training and opportunity offered by Deloitte and the BrightStart programme, it was just too good to miss.
What do you like best about working for Deloitte?
I love a challenge. Every day I get to test myself helping clients by providing them with the best possible advice.
I work with a great team too. It’s so important to have a good relationship with your colleagues as our work is so collaborative. I wouldn’t be able to do my job without such a supportive team.
What are some of your most memorable moments since joining us?
Buying my first flat in Manchester. Being able to do this at such a young age really highlights the fantastic career progression offered by Deloitte.
Playing in the Deloitte Prague Cup 2017 and 2018. This competition is a lot of fun and a great opportunity to meet people from the global firm and also build stronger relationships with people in my team.
I passed my first two exams to become a Chartered Tax Advisor in June and also sat the last two in November. My results are in January so hopefully I’ll be proud of those too.
But as a Manchester City season ticket holder, nothing can compare to watching The Centurions every week.
What motivates you to continue to grow with us?
Having been promoted to consultant, my main goal was to establish myself in the new role. I also took the opportunity to further specialise within our Global Employer Services team, providing advice on employee reward and incentive plans. This is an exciting challenge for me as I have had to build technical knowledge quickly.
The support I receive from my colleagues is a big help too. They always help me overcome any challenges that I face.
