Nye, a consultant in Cyber, faced many challenges before starting a career with us. Now he’s using his position to change the world for the better.
When did you join Deloitte and what is your role within the company?
I joined the Cyber Attack team in September 2018 as part of Deloitte’s graduate intake. I work with people of all different levels in our Cheltenham office to protect clients from potential risks to their systems.
What made you pursue a career in your field?
Before I started here, I had quite an unusual career path. I studied Computer Forensics at University and worked in this field for a year, before becoming a Computer Science teacher. But it wasn’t long before I missed the exciting challenges that come with working in the technology industry.
What do you like best about working for Deloitte?
I love the people! I’ve not met anyone who I’ve not been able to have a really interesting conversation with. Everyone really knows what they’re talking about. I’m learning so much so quickly, which is ideal for me.
What are some of your most memorable achievements of your career so far?
I struggled a lot in university with my mental health, so graduating with a first from the University of Cardiff made me really proud.
Last year, I was asked to help with an Anti-Bullying campaign in the school I used to work. I’ll never forget seeing so many students coming together to support victims of bullying and share their own stories of being bullied.
My final days working at my old school were really important to me. I received so many messages of love, support and kindness from students. It just shows that you can make an impact, even when you don’t think you have.
On a personal level, I came to terms with some gender issues I’d been facing and attended my first Pride event in Bristol. Gender and sexuality issues are incredibly important to me. Being given the opportunity to attend Pride and support some teenage transgender students was very fulfilling.
What motivates you to continue to grow with us?
My main goal this year was to push myself and get better. I want to be the best I can be. Even though I’ve only been here for a short time, I’ve learnt more here than I’ve learnt over the last 3 years. I’m really enjoying it and looking forward to continuing my progress.
