Rebecca Bell – Exploring new horizons in Real Estate

How did you join Deloitte?

I qualified as a Chartered Accountant, so knew that I enjoyed project-based team work. I wanted to leverage the analytical skills my ACA provided, and knew I was interested in the tangible asset of real estate, so I applied to the Real Estate Consulting team and joined Deloitte in March 2018.

What are you responsible for in your role?

We advise clients on large real estate transformation projects - I am currently advising a client on a large transformation project which aims to provide military personnel more choice with their accommodation.

I also have a role in the operations element of our department, looking at the finances and forecasts.

What’s a typical day like for you?

I typically spend half of my week in the office (our nice brand-new HQ) and half of the week at the client site. The flexibility to work across both sites is great for client interaction. It also enables us to use the facilities, such as the large screens and tech enabled meeting rooms, depending on what I need to get done that day.

What was your most memorable moment on the job so far?

In my first month on the project team, I worked on an approach to implement a key area of the newly designed policy. I found the collaborative process between client and project team really rewarding – this included presenting to various stakeholders, getting their feedback and eventual approval.

What’s the best part of your job and in what ways is your team innovative?

The excellent team around me, working with people from all across the firm and the country, and the opportunities to learn that this provides.

Why would you recommend Deloitte to someone?

For the opportunities to learn, especially on projects where you work across the whole of the business.

How are you supported to work flexibly?

I have the opportunity to work from home or remotely as needed. The new technology in the office has enabled us to be a very agile team, using Skype in our day to day practice.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I really enjoy exploring new places – whether that is London, elsewhere in the UK, or spending a few weeks abroad. The opportunity to purchase additional days has helped me to maximise these excursions throughout the year!
