Shivani Lingham’s story

How did you join Deloitte?

I worked as a Privacy Officer for an airline in New Zealand, after speaking with a friend who recommended Deloitte as a great place to work, I applied for the role of Senior Consultant – Information Protection at Deloitte London.

What are you responsible for in your role?

I am a privacy subject matter expert. I’m responsible for helping organisations safely use and protect their data. I provide advice and tailored solutions to help organisations eliminate privacy risks, create clarity in their business systems and improve adaptability processes.

How are you supported to work flexibly?

The great thing about Deloitte is that we have a truly flexible work structure. I can work from home or another office without issue. Open communication is supported within Deloitte and there is a big emphasis on work-life-holiday balance.

What was your most memorable moment on the job so far?

Flying to another country for work. Through work I’ve been lucky enough to travel and see parts of the world I hadn’t thought possible. I have worked with some great teams across multiple clients. My colleagues are very agile, intelligent and personable. Every experience and project has taught me new skills.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

When I get free time, I try to fill it with hiking. There is no shortage of beautiful national parks in the UK and Europe. My goal is to hike them all.

Simon Southgate’s story

How did you join Deloitte?

A friend of 14+ years recommended working at Deloitte.

What are you responsible for in your role?

Providing a host of threat intelligence products; from Threat Landscapes and Technical Assessments to quarterly client reports and horizon scanning for the next big impact to our clients and interests.

How are you supported to work flexibly?

My wife is 38 weeks pregnant, my Senior Manager understands I cannot travel far from home, he hasn’t implied any pressure to do so. I have a remote workload at present.

What was your most memorable moment on the job so far?

I got Bell’s Palsy about four weeks ago, my speech was impaired and I couldn’t give a presentation to a client. A more senior colleague gave the presentation no questions asked, was happy to do so and non-judgmental. Highlighting to me the calibre of people within the firm.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

Sunset beach walking with our three dogs, photography, house renovation and waiting for our second daughter to appear.
