2018 – Another outstanding year for deals

Our Corporate Finance M&A Lead Advisory team provides financial advice and insight at every stage of a transaction – from consideration of the strategic options to transaction execution, be it an IPO, acquisition or divestment, restructuring or fast track disposal.

2018 was another incredible year for our South & Wales team and I’m pleased to share our deal highlights from last year, with 10 deals completed amounting to a total value of £1.4 billion.

The deals

Our South & Wales team are a fantastic group of people and they worked with some great clients in 2018.  These are some of the deals the team advised on last year.

Alexander Mann Solutions

We advised the management team of Alexander Mann Solutions Limited, the UK-headquartered global provider of talent acquisition and management services, as part of the company’s £820m sale to OMERS Private Equity Europe Limited – a landmark transaction in the human capital services space.

Alun Griffiths

Alun Griffiths is a successful and well-respected regional civil engineering and surfacing businesses in the UK, operating largely in Wales, the Midlands, and South West England with over 700 employees operating out of six regional offices. We acted as lead advisor to the shareholders on their exit to Tarmac, a group company of CRH plc.

Amberon

Amberon is the UK’s leading road traffic management provider with 22 depots nationwide, revenues in excess of £29m and more than 500 staff. We advised the shareholders of Amberon on the sale of the business to H2 Equity Partners. The deal represents our second transaction with Amberon, having advised management and LDC on the primary management buy-out in 2017.

Blatchford

Our multi-disciplinary team advised the family shareholders on their disposal of an interest in the business to management backed by CBPE Capital LLP. Founded in 1890, Blatchford is a global 4th generation family business and one of the world’s longest established prosthetic companies, having been one of the pioneers of the sector. The business has over 800 employees across its global operations, which include the UK, US, Norway, India and the Middle East, with sales to over 45 countries worldwide.

Countrywide Farmers

We advised Countrywide Farmers plc, one of the largest suppliers of LPG in the UK, on the sale of its Liquified Petroleum Gas business to FTSE 100 listed DCC plc.

Eddie Stobart

Our multi-disciplinary M&A team advised Eddie Stobart Logistics plc on its £52.8m acquisition of The Pallet Network Group Limited. We provided lead advisory services to Eddie Stobart, together with financial, tax and IT due diligence and other transaction related services.

Ideal Shopping

Our cross-service line team advised the directors of Ideal Shopping on the sale of the business to private equity firm Aurelius Equity Opportunities. One of the UK's leading home shopping retailers, Ideal Shopping sells a range of life-style and craft products through its TV shopping channels, social media platforms, websites and events.

Places for People

Our cross-service line team advised Places for People, a residential property building group, in its launch of a £330m fund to acquire in a wide ranging portfolio of private rented sector assets across the UK.

Toast

We advised the shareholders of Toast on their cross-border disposal to Danish fashion house, Bestseller United A/S. Established in West Wales, Toast is a unique lifestyle brand, renowned for the design and sale of contemporary clothing and homewares via its chain of 13 stores throughout the UK, concessions and online store. The transaction also represented an exit for the early backers of Toast, French Connection plc.

We advised a private equity fund on its disposal of a UK-based chain of food outlets.
