A year in review - M&A lead advisory

Martyn Gregory, who heads up our South & Wales M&A lead advisory team in Corporate Finance, and Geraint McGrath, the lead director for the team in Wales, reflect on 2020.

2020 marked 175 years of Deloitte people making an impact that matters. This year was no different for the M&A lead advisory team in the South & Wales and, despite the challenges brought by COVID-19, we are proud to have advised over 25 clients across a range of engagements, from traditional M&A transactions to accelerated disposals, as well as business planning and other strategic advisory mandates.

The team delivered nine deal completions this year and we expect 2021 to be busy as the focus shifts towards COVID-19 recovery and the post-Brexit economy. Highlights from the year are below, contributing to the fact that Deloitte was once again the most active M&A advisor according to Mergermarket.

Engagements by sector

Our South & Wales team consists of a fantastic group of people with a wide breadth of experience who cover a variety of sectors. This graphic shows the breakdown of our engagements by sector across the year.
