Finance as a force for good

From Alison Rose, NatWest Group’s Chief Executive

Finance as a force for good

When it comes to climate change, no one has all the answers. But it’s by working together that we’ll have the best chance of making a positive difference.

We’re fortunate to be connected to some of the most brilliant people and organisations in the world. So we’ve been speaking to a range of experts, in fields from science to business, to find out how they’re going about reaching net zero.

As part of an exclusive series of interviews for the Financial Times we chatted with Alison Rose, NatWest Group’s Chief Executive.

As a taster for the full interview, here are five things we learned from Alison about the ways NatWest is helping its business customers address the challenges and opportunities of climate change.

“Sustainability has to be at the centre of your business and part of every decision if you really want everyone to believe in your journey– from your own people to your senior stakeholders."

NatWest has been on a sustainability journey for a while. They’re now focusing on making an even bigger impact by helping fund the societal transition we need to make to a greener future.
NatWest invests in businesses with credible net-zero transition plans, and is committed to phasing out lending to coal and their exposure to oil and gas. They’re the top lender to the renewable energy sector too.
You’ve got to start under your own roof first. NatWest is on track to be net positive by 2025. From there, their next goal is to halve the carbon footprint of all their financing activities by 2030.
As the risks of climate change become more obvious for our generation, NatWest is playing its part by providing the capital into the economy to make the changes needed.
Sustainability has to be at the centre of your business and part of every decision if you really want everyone to believe in your journey– from your own people to your senior stakeholders.
