BrightStart - Audit

Angharad is a BrightStart in our Audit team based in Gatwick. Angharad joined the BrightStart School Leaver programme in September 2012.

Why did you choose a school leaver scheme over University?

I preferred the idea of learning on the job, to gain experience and be earning.

 

What do you like most about your role?

The diversity of clients and colleagues that you get to work with.

 

What didn't you know, but wish you had known when applying and joining Deloitte?

The amount of free food that the company buys for you!

 

Why did you choose the Deloitte school leaver scheme over other schemes?

From reading reviews on the internet, Deloitte seemed to be friendly and care about its employees, so was an attractive place to work for, especially as my first real job.

 

What work do you get involved in on a day to day basis at Deloitte?

Working on the audit file as part of a team, speaking to clients to request information and analysing the information they provide.

 

How do you deliver or contribute impact, leadership or innovation in your role?

We have responsibility right from the start, working on real files and having face to face contact with clients as soon as the initial training is complete. We are encouraged to question everything and think of new ways of addressing problems that may be found on jobs.

 

What social, society and CSR activities have you been involved with at Deloitte?

SECASS is a student society for people studying the ACA, and organises events to meet up with people from your own and other firms in the area. Social events are also arranged within the office, such as a trip to Thorpe Park and the Christmas party. I am also part of the group to promote the BrightStart scheme, contacting schools and attending careers fairs to spread the word.

 

How has your experienced at Deloitte played a role in your long term career goals?

I am developing every day, learning new things about audit as well as working life in general. There is also a clear, regular promotion structure that will allow me to progress throughout the firm.
