Life at Deloitte
Candidate Engagement Advisor
Charlotte works in Human Resources and is based in our Manchester office.
What do my team and I do?
For the last three years I have managed our student recruitment schemes for the Manchester, Leeds and Liverpool offices, across school leaver programmes, undergraduate internships, and graduate positions. I also look after the relationship with universities and schools in the region.
Where does my team fit?
The Student Recruitment team forms part of the Resourcing function within the HR team. We work with a wide range of people across the firm such as the service line managers and talent partners to work out the business’ requirements; all the teams within the HR function like the learning, onboarding and attraction team; and also with recent graduates who make great Ambassadors for our firm.
How does my role make an impact that matters with Deloitte?
We’re spotting raw talent. Recruiting the best talent early on, whether at the school leaver or graduate stage, working with them, guiding them, training them up, getting them through our rigorous selection process and on a good career trajectory is really important as we are developing and nurturing our future leaders.
My biggest accomplishment.
My biggest accomplishment in this role is seeing a full intake of strong candidates come through our doors each year. It’s a challenging marketplace. Students have lots of choice and so for them to choose to work here is very rewarding.
What I’m most proud of at Deloitte?
We’ve won lots of awards over the last couple of years, everything from being the highest placed Professional Services firm in the National Undergraduate Employability Awards 2015, to winners of The Candidate Experience Award where we were identified for implementing innovative, standout practices throughout the recruiting cycle. I’m proud to be part of the team.
My favourite part of the job.
It’s great to be at the beginning of their journey. For the most part, it is their first job application so they are keen to have as much help as possible. We give them tips on how to fill in an application form, give them interview techniques, and then guide them through the application process. I love hearing their reactions when I tell them they’ve got the job!
Something more about me.
I will be running our ASPIRE work experience programme in Manchester over the summer. This forms part of Deloitte’s commitment to ‘Access to Accountancy’, where employers and professional bodies have pledged to improve access to the profession for young people from less advantaged backgrounds across the UK.
The week is designed to give year 12 students an insight into careers in professional services, the different service lines we offer and life at Deloitte. There are various different business games, case studies and work shadowing activities that the students will get involved with. I am really looking forward to seeing how the students get on and hopefully see some apply to our BrightStart and graduate programmes in the next few years!
