Life at Deloitte
Analyst - Consulting, Technology
Hossein is an Analyst Consultant in our Technology Consulting team based in London. He joined Deloitte in August 2011 and studied Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Imperial College, London.
What do you like most about your role?
I particularly enjoy the variety in the roles that I take up at different clients, which allows you to gain a broad range of experiences.
I also get the opportunity to identify new interests and develop my skills, by attending the numerous events and training courses which are internally run and available to practitioners at all levels.
What didn't you know, but wish you had known when applying and joining Deloitte?
I wasn’t aware of the sheer number of fellow graduate analysts who would join the firm at the same time as me. This created a sense of community during the induction period, which has made settling in at the firm a lot easier..
What work do you get involved in on a day to day basis at Deloitte?
I attend meetings and workshops, produce presentations, material, reports and proposals. I also conduct market research, data analysis and modelling.
I like to attend as many training courses as possible.
How do you deliver or contribute impact, leadership and innovation in your role?
I always aim to come up with new and innovative ways of solving problems, by drawing on my past experiences and my technical knowledge. I also try to keep up with the latest industry trends and developments from a technology perspective, and contribute to internal propositions and sales proposals in areas that interest me the most.
At the moment I am involved with developing propositions around what services we can offer – based on the latest trends and demands – specifically to clients in the Technology, Media and Telecommunications industries.
What social, society and CSR activities have you been involved with at Deloitte?
I have been part of the Consulting 5-a-side team who play once a week against teams from other competencies (Audit, Tax, ERS, etc.). This is a good way to catch up with my fellow colleagues who are on various projects at different client sites.
I regularly attend the monthly get-together which is organised by the Analyst Committee. Again, this is a great way to catch up with fellow analysts and to get an idea of what everyone has been involved with recently around the firm and on their various projects.
I try to attend as many industry or competency-specific social events as I can, which always tend to be very good fun and a welcome break from all the hard work! They also provide a great opportunity to expand your internal network in a relaxed environment.
How has Deloitte played a role in your long term career goals?
By working at Deloitte I get the opportunity to work with very ambitious and high calibre colleagues who have a very deep understanding and knowledge of their specialist areas. This is very valuable in helping me improve my understanding of the various industries and the roles that I undertake.
Most importantly, I get the chance to gain hands on experience of different roles across various sectors and clients; through this I can make an informed decision on the path I choose in terms of my future career and goals.
