Life at Deloitte
Resourcing Business Partner for Financial Advisory
Emma works in Human Resources and is based in our London office.
What do my team and I do?
My role is largely around HR relationship management – I work with the business to understand their requirements and put in place resourcing solutions that will help them to achieve their strategic goals. It’s important I understand the external influences on the market as well as our internal recruitment processes so that I can be proactive and make recommendations.
Where does my team fit?
The Resourcing team work alongside the Student Recruitment team, Experienced Hire team, International Mobility and Attraction team. We form part of the Resourcing function who is responsible for overall attraction, engagement, recruitment and mobility across the UK and Switzerland. We are moving towards our new high impact HR model so we are working more closely with the other teams in HR. We feed the market knowledge we have back into these teams so we can create more informed policies to help us attract the best people.
How does my role make an impact that matters with Deloitte?
We are a professional services firm so our business is based on the clever, talented diverse range of people we employ. Without a pipeline of talent coming through we wouldn’t have a business. We have to make sure everyone who comes into contact with us has a great candidate experience, whether they end up joining us or not. Word of mouth can have a knock-on effect on our brand.
My biggest accomplishment.
I’ve been here over eight years and my role has regularly changed and developed over time. A career highlight for me was setting up the Brightstart scheme five years ago which I started from scratch. It’s been embraced by the firm and has had a hugely positive impact on the business. It’s really helped with social mobility as we are not just recruiting people who are cut from the same cloth. It brings diversity of thought and differing perspectives which the firm is benefitting from.
What I’m most proud of at Deloitte?
I have the opportunity to take the lead on projects that interest me. We have a huge focus on gender diversity at the moment so we worked with the business to get them to think about which roles could be done on a part time basis or in a more agile way. The result was the pilot of a ‘Return to Work’ Scheme with the Deloitte Alumni. It aimed to bring females back into the workplace who have been away for two years or more. It has become an industry award winning scheme and has been so successful that we have expanded it across all the service lines and to the wider market.
My favourite part of the job.
I can see how my role makes an impact in the business when great people come on board. I’ve been here a while now and I find helping other people to navigate their careers rewarding. There’s huge variety in this role and I get a lot of training and development to help keep me on my toes. I even spent 2 weeks in Poland last year as part of an exchange programme.
Something more about me.
Last year I went shark cage diving. I like trying out new things that are outside of my comfort zone. It’s something I’m encouraged to do here at Deloitte, but obviously not in quite such scary way!
