Life at Deloitte

Eva Woon

Technology, Strategy and Architecture

What projects have you worked on so far?
I've worked on five different projects since joining Deloitte last year, and all the roles have been different. My first project brought me to Windsor to work on an IT Strategy Review piece for a UK Energy firm. A month later, I was brought on to another strategy piece with a global financial institution based in Northampton. I've also had the opportunity to work on a small piece of due diligence project and had a very exciting requirements analyst role with a global travel company that enabled me to travel to Germany on a weekly basis. I'm currently playing a project management (PMO) role in a massive infrastructure transformation programme with a global financial institution based in London.

What do you like most about your role?
The fact that nothing is ever constant in my role. There will always be something new to learn, and the work you do is never really the same. You will also find yourself in very different environments and working with different teams; this helps you develop your soft skills pretty quickly.

What work do you get involved in on a day to day basis at Deloitte?
It depends on the type of project that you are involved in and the timeline of the project. On my current PMO role, I spend five days per week on client site working closely with our client team. I ensure that the status reports are produced and help report on risks, issues, milestones and deliverables of the project on a weekly basis. Some days I spend hours building up a business case for a client and presenting it to key client stakeholders. Other days I'll be driving workshops and engaging with clients from different parts of the globe (Singapore, India, USA, etc) to ensure the delivery of certain client deliverables.

Why do you think Deloitte is a good place to work?
The amount of support and development opportunities you get from the Graduate Scheme makes Deloitte a great place to kick start your career. There is such a good community of practitioners across different grades within Deloitte; someone is always there to help you out no matter what. Also, Deloitte is not all work and no play- there are loads of opportunities to get involved in different activities outside of work like climbing the O2 or heading out for team go-karting sessions.

How has Deloitte played a role in your long term career goals?
The steep learning curve and the fast paced environment that Deloitte provides challenges you to always strive to learn and do better. I believe the culture at Deloitte shapes and enables you to excel in any career you may move into in the future.

What advice would you give to anyone thinking about working in technology?
There is so much to learn in technology - so be very hungry for knowledge.
