Financial Services Audit
Our Audit & Assurance function provides audit assurance, advisory and transaction advisory services to our clients. Our specialist financial services team provides these services to clients within the financial services industry, including banks, building societies and insurance companies, as well as investment managers, mortgage and other lenders, and debt purchase companies. These businesses can range from large multinational corporations to smaller, owner-managed businesses.
This team provides an opportunity to work in this fast growing sector of professional services, and offers the rapid development associated with a graduate position in Audit & Assurance, together with specialist knowledge of financial services clients. As the department is expanding, there are also opportunities for employees to be involved in a variety of activities from graduate recruitment to pitching for new clients.
Within the team, our other specialists work in Regulation, Financial Risk Management, Pensions Audit Centre of Excellence (PACE) and Internal Audit. We also work closely with the other service lines of Corporate Finance, IT and Tax financial services specialists and The Pensions Audit Centre of Excellence (“PACE”).

What you'll be doing
Working within Audit & Assurance provides one of the finest and fastest forms of business education imaginable. Alongside studying for the ACA qualification, trainees will work on a succession of audits throughout the year, ranging typically from one to six weeks in length, in different businesses and in different locations both in the UK and abroad.
As such, trainees deal with clients who vary in their operations, their controls, their size and structure and their commercial attitudes thus enabling trainees to gain a wide business knowledge, whilst also gaining a specialist knowledge in the financial services sector. In the early years with the firm, the majority of Audit & Assurance trainees work on audit assurance. This involves providing quarterly, six-monthly and annual audits for our clients. An audit is a statutory requirement for all companies and is essentially an examination of their financial records to ensure that the accounts they produce are ‘true and fair’. This involves understanding the client’s business, its controls, its accounting systems as well as individual transactions.

There are also opportunities to work on a variety of advisory services to our clients as the financial service industry undergoes a significant amount of change. Advisory engagements include business process reviews, transaction advisory services, reviews over regulatory or industry reporting and many other services. You could also become a Financial Instrument Specialist within our Treasury Advisory team.
Career progression is rapid within the financial services audit division, as responsibility is given very early on. When you first join Deloitte you will be working within a team, but within a year or two you may have staff working for you and you will have to manage their workload and your own. After two to three years you will be running engagements, and managing the day to day relationships with clients.
Training and development
As well as the ACA exams, you’ll undertake an extensive programme of internal Deloitte-specific training. This will consist of technical audit training, business skills training (covering topics such as Personal Impact, Coaching and Client relationship skills) and career development workshops. All our training courses are based on best-practice learning principles, and we adopt a variety of learning interventions such as simulations, residential facilitator-led training, e-learning and local workshops. In addition, we ensure that your training mainly takes place in the classroom so that you can benefit from a supportive learning environment. As part of our core curriculum, you’ll have access to over 4000 e-learning units via the Skillsoft platform, on technical and business skills topics. This will provide you with on-demand e-learning and tools to help support your on-the-job performance. You’ll also have a dedicated learning team, who’ll develop innovative learning materials and will provide experienced facilitators. Lastly you will also have opportunity to attend regular Financial Services specific industry training covering a wide range of topics.
