What do you like most about your role?
The culture of the firm is great there is always a sense of team, balanced with great individual responsibility. It’s this balance which has helped me develop and learn so much in the time that I have been here. And it’s also this balance which I like most about my role.
What didn't you know, but wish you had known when applying and joining Deloitte?
How friendly and approachable all the people I work with are. It would have meant that I was less apprehensive in the months leading up to joining.
What aspects of your degree do you feel support you in your role and success at Deloitte?
The nature of the degree I studied at university meant that I had to very quickly develop a skill in being able to identify the most relevant information from a vast array of sources. This is an important skill I have natured at Deloitte when researching a small area of tax law, amongst the huge amount of information available.
What qualifications are you working towards and what support are you getting?
I completed the ATT qualification during my first year at Deloitte. Currently I am studying towards the CTA qualification, which I expect to complete in November.
The firm has supported me both financially as well as ensuring that I had enough time off to prepare for the exams.
What work do you get involved in on a day to day basis at Deloitte?
In Employment Consulting Opportunities, we work with a variety of clients ranging from listed multinationals to individuals. Our work involves designing and implementing tax efficient benefits packages and ensuring that employers are compliant with constantly changing tax legislation.
As a senior associate it is my role to assist my colleagues in providing advice on employment related issues. My role involves understanding the issues that clients face, and then help develop a credible solution to their particular situation. I am also involved in liaising with our international colleagues to understand the global tax issues that our clients face.
What social, society and CSR activities have you been involved with at Deloitte?
During the summer I took part in a community investment day, where I visited a park and got involved in hands-on activities, such as painting, sanding and gardening. Community investment days are not just great for helping the wider community but also for networking within Deloitte.
Employment Consulting Opportunities is a very sociable department and there are always various social events booked into the diary. The events range from an evening of bowling and pool to spending an afternoon of fun and games in Hyde Park!
How has Deloitte played a role in your long term career goals?
Having been at Deloitte for only two years, I am already seeing the long term benefits of joining. I’d like to think the two years at Deloitte have laid the foundations for what I hope is to be a successful career.
