What do you like most about your role?
Dealing with people.
Whether it is a seasoned expat who has worked a number of overseas assignments or an individual going on their first ever overseas posting; my role involves briefing all of these individuals to ensure that they understand the impact of their overseas assignment on their personal tax position.
What didn't you know, but wish you had known when applying and joining Deloitte?
I did not know how much of a team culture we have here at Deloitte.
Since joining the firm I have received constant support from my team members whether it is related to client work or studying for professional exams.
We have a great team ethic here at Deloitte and the firm actively encourages and rewards actions that support and develop the people around you.
What work do you get involved in on a day to day basis at Deloitte?
I have a number of clients for whom I have acted since I started with the firm. A large proportion of my time is spent liaising with these clients to manage ongoing projects and to ensure the client is kept up to date on any ongoing issues.
More recently, I have spent more time getting involved with business development activities. This has included working on a number of high profile proposals, as well as more recently, a project in conjunction with a major UK Airport to analyse and review the types of business travellers arriving into their region.
How do you deliver or contribute impact, leadership and innovation in your role?
I am the Global Advantage (GA) super-user for our office. GA is an online electronic platform that is used, amongst other things, to manage our tax return compliance for all overseas assignees.
In this role I am responsible for delivering updates and training in my local office for all GA users and liaising with clients to discuss how the GA platform could be used in their business.
I also feed in to a global team responsible for developing the GA software with the aim of improving functionality for both Deloitte users and our clients.
What social, society and CSR activities have you been involved with at Deloitte?
Deloitte is the official professional services provider to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
As part of Deloitte’s sponsorship of the Olympic Games I have been given the opportunity to volunteer as a Games Maker.
As a Games Maker I was based at Wimbledon where I assisted both spectators and athletes during the 2012 Olympic tennis tournament, including being there on finals day for Andy Murray’s gold medal win!
I am also an active member of the Deloitte cricket team here in Manchester where we have managed to win the Manchester professionals league.
How has Deloitte played a role in your long term career goals?
Deloitte has provided me with support and funding to study for both my ATT and CTA exams. With help from the firm I am now pleased to say that I have passed all of my CTA exams.
Deloitte also take an active role in your development and personal objectives. All employees are assigned a performance manager and have the opportunity to request a more informal mentor.
With the assistance of both your performance manager and mentor you are able to shape the direction of your career at the firm; whether it is exposure to a new technical area, involvement in business development or taking on a role as a trainer of new joiners.
