Skills workshop at the Information Age careers fair
Students are the next generation of technology leaders and we are passionate about engaging them to share our experiences and also learn from them. This is why you will find us at events such as the Information Age careers event which brings together the UK’s female university students for a series of workshops and discussions led by current industry practitioners
At the Tomorrow’s Tech Leaders event (part of the Information Age careers fair), Saray Cruz from the Women in Technology network delivered a skills workshop. The event was attended by over 200 female university students or recent graduates with an interest in careers in tech.
The workshop was delivered in collaboration with Ada College and covered key topics to help young women in their first steps into a career in IT: skills that companies look for, how to identify your strengths and weaknesses and how to develop your skills throughout your career.
The overall message included:
- The opportunity in technology is massive. New job roles are created faster than vacant roles are filled
- Technical skills are great but companies also need creative and entrepreneurial skills to be successful.
- You don’t have to have a background in technology to work in technology. Just a passion for it!
