Financial Advisory

Your training and development

Corporate Finance Advisory

Join us and you’ll study for the Certificate in Finance and Business (CFAB) which is the foundation stage of the Chartered Accountants qualification from the institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW). Later on you will study for the Financial Advisory Qualification (FAQ), a new qualification that has been introduced by the ICAEW in conjunction with the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investments (CISI).

This consists of two exams in the first year covering the CISI Certificate and one four-hour case study based paper in the second year to cover the ICAEW Diploma.

This new qualification has been designed specifically for financial advisory professionals to deliver the practical skills required by this profession. The qualification also underpins FSA approved person status.

Forensic Technology

Your IT based qualification will have provided you with an excellent grounding for your career within our Forensic Technology team, as you will be equipping you with the technical knowledge needed for the client work you will be performing when you join us.

To help you achieve the required standards and meet the high demands that will be made of you, we will provide you with the training and support you need. For example, within the first six months of joining us, you will learn the basics of computer forensics, data analytic's and electronic disclosure, which will give you hands on experience of the tools we use and the procedures we follow.

We will train you in acquiring and analysing evidence from laptops, email servers and other electronic devices such as mobile phones. You will be trained in using relational databases such as SQL and Advanced MS Access, which you will use to analyse large volumes of data, and developing bespoke databases for our forensic investigators. Finally, you will cover the area of electronic disclosure, learning how to set up a matter, load in the client data and learn how to use the software to filter and analyse the information to identify potentially relevant evidence for the case.

Later in your career, you can opt to specialise in a chosen technical discipline and we will supplement your learning with appropriate internal and/ or external courses, where appropriate.

You’ll be provided with a buddy from day one who can provide you with any additional support and guidance you may need. They will understand the demands of the role and how best to help you meet the exciting challenges ahead.

In addition to what you’ll learn during work experience, there are many internal courses that you can attend to improve your technical and business skills.

The aim of effective career and personal development is to enable all members of the department to make the maximum contribution to the achievement of the department's and their own goals.

The Forensic and Dispute Services Learning Team has developed a training programme to meet the requirements of all members of the department up to and including partners. We have developed both internal and external courses, ranging from Investigation skills and Financial Crime through to Accounting for non Accountants and Business Analysis skills.

As graduates, you will be given support and encouragement to help you identify your developmental and training needs. To assist you with this, you will be allocated an appraiser as part of the performance management process, who you will meet with on a formal basis at least twice a year to discuss how you are getting on.

This is a two-way process and, as well as receiving feedback on how you are progressing, you will be able to discuss how you feel about your development and what objectives you wish to set for the future.

Your new personal and business skills will be applicable to other professional environments, and can also help you understand your own abilities – something which can be invaluable in life outside work.
