What projects have you worked on so far?

During your first year as a consultant, you get exposure to a wide range of roles. For me, sitting within AIM, these included working as a business analyst on the largest European construction project, specifically responsible for the user provisioning workstream, managing two Deloitte resources. My most recent work has been with a large telecommunications company, supporting them with a strategy piece around their enterprise service architecture, with specific responsibility for the requirements gathering phase of the project.

What do you like most about your role?

Every project, and even phases within each project, are different. This enables an ongoing steep learning curve while pushing you to build up a broad knowledge of many organisations, industries, propositions, capabilities and skills.

What work do you get involved in on a day to day basis at Deloitte?

In addition to project work, there are plenty of opportunities to support the practice, business and society. Deloitte strongly supports its people to help society, and while there are hundreds of Deloitte-run programmes, the firm is happy to let you help in your way, offering a 'community day' for each employee to do charitable work.

Why do you think Deloitte is a good place to work?

The people! It sounds very cliché, and it is, but in our line of work we spend a lot of time with our colleagues. There is a great atmosphere and camaraderie in my team, which has a huge impact on your attitude and happiness. From experience in other organisations, this is extremely rare. The senior members encourage junior members to stretch themselves and provide plenty of opportunities to do this.

How has Deloitte played a role in your long term career goals?

The diversity of the clients I have come in contact with and the work that I have been involved in has enabled me to develop broad capabilities while capitalising on my strengths, which puts me in a strong position, independent of my future career path.

What advice would you give to anyone thinking about working in technology?

Don’t think that just because you don’t have a technical background you will be disadvantaged. Our technology practice requires a range of skills and backgrounds to succeed, and your background and experience, along with your career aspirations, are taken into consideration when staffing you. That being said, we are always looking for deep technical capabilities so if you are interested in developing this side of your skill set, there will be plenty of opportunities to put yourself forward.
