Life at Deloitte

Samantha Leask

Accounts Receivable Admin Assistant, Milton Keynes, SSO

I wanted to make the move from a smaller financial firm to one of the big four where I could increase my skills and knowledge in order to move forward with my career. I was looking for a starting role where I could combine being a PA with administration as these were the skills I had gained previously. I have been at Deloitte for the past year, providing support and assistance for the Accounts Receivable teams. There are six teams which I assist with administrative tasks especially during busy periods. These can include post, banking and room bookings. I am also responsible for the diary management and travel arrangements for the C2C Senior Manager. It is a busy role and I love the variety as no two days are ever the same.

Can you describe your first day?

I attended two induction days in London. When I started my first day in the Milton Keynes office, I was very nervous but everyone was extremely friendly and made me feel very welcome. I was slowly eased into my role to ensure I felt fully confident in what I was doing.

What do you enjoy about working at our Shared Services Organisation in Milton Keynes?

Everyone in the office is friendly and the atmosphere is upbeat which always makes for a good working environment. My team are fun to work with as well as being sociable outside of work. I feel like I’ve made new friends rather than just work colleagues.

Tell us about the training and development opportunities at Deloitte that you have experienced?

I receive on the job training to learn new skills and to help me specifically with my day-to-day tasks. There are many opportunities for me to attend additional training courses which are relevant for my role. I have regular meetings with my Team Leader to discuss my objectives and plan my future. They know exactly where I’m trying to get to and are helping me to collect the knowledge and experience I need to reach the next level.

What social, society and corporate responsibilities have you been involved with at Deloitte?

Every year we all have the opportunity to participate in Community Days. We give back to the community by helping small establishments in and around Milton Keynes. This could involve gardening, repainting buildings or DIY. Last year I spent the day volunteering at a Day Care Centre providing company for the elderly.

How does working in the office in Milton Keynes help you to achieve a work/life balance?

I have a very easy commute - I only live a 5 minute walk away from the office, therefore I can walk to and from work every day.

Why did you choose to join Deloitte?

Career progression is important to me and Deloitte provides me with the opportunities I need in order to move forward.
