Student opportunities in Tax Consulting
Indirect Taxes impact almost every transaction made by a business. As Indirect Tax Consulting professionals, we get to know all aspects of our client’s business – both what they do and how they do it – and advise them on business critical events.
As an Indirect Tax Analyst, you'll be working in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. We advise a broad range of clients on finding solutions to a variety of challenging indirect tax issues and help them navigate through the practical aspects of implementing indirect tax solutions.
Our work is rooted in the law rather than accountancy, so we spend much of our time researching the legislation and case law, understanding how it relates to our clients and finding effective solutions to the Indirect Tax issues they face.
We team with a wide range of senior client stakeholders outside of the core finance teams and, because much of the work is cross-border, we collaborate with colleagues and clients across the globe to bring insight to our clients. The majority of our work is consulting around VAT (or its equivalent in other countries), but we also advise on customs and excise duties, environmental taxes, and various other indirect taxes. The variety and breadth of projects we are involved in continues to grow; currently, the Indirect Tax Consulting team is increasingly working alongside colleagues on systems and technology focused projects.

Who we work for
We work as a single national practice, using technology to link us together; one of the main benefits of this is the ability to ensure our junior people have access to a broad cross-section of experience in their early years – working with different clients and teams on a variety of projects. You could be working with a finance director to thrash out the specifics of a new football sponsorship deal, liaising with the commercial team to help a retailer set up in a new territory or perhaps teaming up with a local council to help them get best value-for-money building new facilities. No two days are the same.
Whatever the project, you can be sure that you will be in a collaborative, developmental environment that requires the ability and confidence to team, build relationships, analyse a problem and present clients with forward looking, commercial advice, which has a real impact on their business. You are the face of Deloitte and have an important role from Day One.
In addition to taking part in the Tax Analyst Development Programme , we will support you in obtaining professional qualifications that will be beneficial to your everyday work and long-term career. In Indirect Tax Consulting we offer the opportunity to study for the combined Chartered Accountancy (ACA) and Chartered Institute of Taxation (CTA) qualifications.
Although the learning curve is steep, we’ll provide you the training and support you need in order to pass the exams. Time will be set aside for study and revision classes with qualified teachers to give you the best possible chance of success.
