The perfect start to your tax career?
Tax Academy analysts give their verdicts on the three-week training programme
In September 2015 we launched a two-year development programme for graduates and school leavers joining Deloitte’s Tax business. This included a prestigious three-week residential Tax Analyst Academy at Warwick University. The Academy helps new tax analysts prepare for a successful career in the firm, developing core technical and consulting skills to enable them to add value from day one in the office. Two of the analysts who attended the inaugural event in 2015 share their experiences with us:
“The three-week analyst academy was intense, tiring but incredibly enjoyable. The academy wasn’t just about technical training, we also had the chance to learn about business chemistry and body language, as well as presentation skills. The part of the training that had the most significant impact on my development at Deloitte was the way it made our year group feel part of the firm so quickly. The residential environment quickly broke down barriers between analysts and the Tax practice, and when we finally arrived at the office not only did we have a peer group but I also felt that our managers were genuinely there to support us. We had the confidence to throw ourselves into our work, and a fear of failure was replaced with a desire to learn. The supportive community of the academy set the tone for our experience of Deloitte.”

“The analyst academy was the perfect way to start my career at Deloitte! We learned from the leadership of our Tax practice how they have built and maintained strong client relationships, and they helped us see things from the perspective of the client. The simulation at the end of the process allowed me to understand the nature of an analyst’s work, as well as provide experience on time management, with an emphasis on recognising what information would be most important to the client and how best to present this. The best thing I have taken away from the academy has been the internal network of friends; they continue to be an invaluable source of knowledge and support and made the first day in the office less daunting. It’s always nice to know that someone will have had the same query as you and that they are only an instant message away!”
