Manager, Tax Depreciation
Lauren is a Manager in our Tax Depreciation team in our London office. She joined Deloitte in August 2010 having studied Economics at the University of Reading.
What do you like most about your role?
I like the breadth of my clients which include many well known brand names, and understanding more about the inner workings of their business.
Seeing a project through from proposal stage to delivery and building a relationship with the client.
I enjoy working in the consumer business industry (mainly working with hospitality clients)
What didn't you know, but wish you had known when applying and joining Deloitte?
The vast amount of training that is available, both in terms of technical and soft skills.
I value the opportunities that Deloitte brings and the knowledge that one picks up from sitting amongst/meeting with colleagues with varying specialisms and experience.
What aspects of your degree do you feel support you in your role and success at Deloitte?
Knowledge of the UK economy, so that I am able to have informed conversations with my clients and understand the challenges that they face
Time management, as work often involves juggling a number of clients and it is important to keep on top of all of them to avoid missing deadlines
What work do you get involved in on a day to day basis at Deloitte?
Proposal work, including initial research, bids and fee negotiations.
Project management including billing, mentoring, developing members of the team, project delivery, regular correspondence with clients.
Providing advice to clients/colleagues either over the phone or face to face.
Reviewing and developing the skills of junior members of the team.
How do you deliver or contribute impact, leadership and innovation in your role?
Identifying solutions/tax savings for current/new clients.
Identifying system improvements.
Providing training and helping to develop others.
What social, society and CSR activities have you been involved with at Deloitte?
Participated in a pensioner’s entertainment day which included organising salsa and games.
Deloitte wine club – monthly wine tasting events.
Regularly attend networking event for under 35s working in the hospitality sector.
How has Deloitte played a role in your long term career goals?
I was given responsibility at an early stage, which really helped me start my career.
Various soft skills learnt on training courses (e.g. dealing with difficult clients/situations/business writing/presentational skills/networking and building rapport).
