Life at Deloitte

Anna Poloniecka

Senior Consultant

I’m one step ahead of the UK consumer!

What did you study?

Maths with Study in Continental Europe (Paris XI)

What do you do at Deloitte Technology Consulting?

I’m part of a large team who change our clients’ Digital landscapes. Together we create huge online solutions.

Although I’ve worked on projects in Insurance, Banking, Music and Pensions, my real drive lies in the Retail industry.

I look at the Data Integration of our clients’ new web platforms which means thinking about not just what the customer needs to see but also what the business needs to know. From there it’s a question of working out how on earth it can get there!

Been on the John Lewis website? Worked out if you’re on track for retirement on the Retire Ready website? All the business data you see there is only visible through my input to the team’s work but that’s just the tip of the iceberg!

It’s not just client roles that get me up in the morning though. Amongst other internal initiatives, year round I work with an incredible team to design, prepare and deliver a world class Technology Analyst Induction Programme.

Why did you choose a career in Technology?

Coming out of university, I knew I didn’t want to go into academics and I dabbled with the idea of teaching but decided it wasn’t for me. So what to do with a Maths degree?

I wanted something varied, something challenging, something that required the use of my brain and a logical way of thinking… So I applied to Deloitte Consulting and asked them what would suit me best. The answer was Technology.

What would you say to someone considering a career in Technology?

Technology is at the forefront of all our clients’ business strategies and it’s not going anywhere any time soon. It’s a very strategic place to be.

The “industry” is so broad and so varied that you can find or make your own niche no matter your preferences or skills. Some of my colleagues do such different tasks day to day that I sometimes forget we all had the same core training!

Whether you want to brush shoulders with client CEOs to discuss global positioning or be an expert in a particular piece software is down to you but it probably sits in Technology!
