Life at Deloitte

Saray Cruz

Manager

I help clients define their future and guide them in their journey to get there

What did you study?

Business Management and International Communications.

What do you do at Deloitte Technology Consulting?

All sorts of things is the right answer!

If I was to pick a typical day, I’d probably spend the majority of it at my client ‘s office helping them transform how they manage their business. Technology would be a key part of this.

My role involves working with people in the organisation to help them frame their goals and needs so that together we can choose the best technologies to help them get there. But this is just the start! I also work with them to ensure that all aspects of their business align to their new goals: what roles people will perform, what new processes will make them faster, more profitable, and how they can measure if they are being successful. In short, I help clients define their future and guide them in their journey to get there.

But there is a lot more to the job than this. You really set your own limits. I also lead the communication side for our Women in Tech network, which enables me to utilise my international communications background.

Why did you choose a career in Technology?

I started my career working for an IT company. After a couple of years, I decided to diversify and work in other industries such as renewable energy, the public sector and banking. I enjoyed every job in a different way, yet I found myself wanting to go back to a more technology focused environment.

Why? Working in Information Technology really puts to the test my communication and people skills as well as my ability to translate complexity into simple, actionable insight that makes a difference. I also get to work with a huge variety of talented people in innovative projects that transform organisations. This is what makes me tick! So I didn't choose a career in Technology; it was meant to be!

What would you say to someone considering a career in Technology?

Two things:

  1. You don’t need to have a technical background to be successful in technology. Not having a technical background has meant that I can really relate to our clients and help them through their challenging technology projects.
  2. What else is out there cooler than technology?...
